About this product
Many of the today-distinguished Soviet composers in the second half of the 20th century knew how to steer a middle course, enabling them to supply what was officially desirable all the while remaining faithful to themselves, writing the music they wanted to write. Kabalevsky was a Jack of all musical trades and, as a specialist for children's music especially, cultivated a highly personal style, keeping easily within the bounds of comprehensible tonal aesthetics. His works are characterized by some of the features typical of Kabalevsky's overall oeuvre a cornucopia of melodious imagination, dance rhythms, above all in the fast movements, expansive slow sections and a positive, often cheerful tone. The present presents a selection of his orchestral works alongside his violin concerto.

Ercole Nisini's musical world knows no boundaries. Equally fascinated by Renaissance, Baroque, and Classical music, he shares this enthusiasm with his fellow musicians and audiences. On his new GENUIN album, he releases rarely performed repertoire that he, as was often customary in music around 1600, has arranged and interpreted for his instrument, improvising over it and even enriching it with modern elements. ![Ernst / Lupu / Hobson - Ernst: Complete Works, Vol. 5 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/219b8153-fafb-4919-a74c-0cc826c75a69.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst (1812-65) was one of the leading musicians of his day, a friend of Berlioz, Chopin, Liszt and Mendelssohn, and for Joseph Joachim 'the greatest violinist I ever heard'. But the popular encore pieces by which Ernst is remembered today represent only a fraction of his output. This fifth CD - in series of seven presenting all his compositions for the first time - shows his mastery on large and small scale the Polonaise and Variations on a Dutch Air are grand and brilliant compositions for the concert hall, and the sparkling operatic miniatures and tender arrangements are altogether more intimate.
