Kavall - Kavall: Inmitten - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Passionate advocates of French music, Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas and Les Surprises tackle it's intimate and spiritual side with M.-A. Charpentier and S. de Brossard. They share their vision of the Meditations for Lent, a masterpiece for three male voices and basso continuo. Founded in 2010 by Juliette Guignard and Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, the ensemble Les Surprises seeks to convey it's passion for the music of the 17th and 18th centuries through varied and original programmes. In borrowing it's name from the opéra-ballet by Jean-Philippe Rameau Les Surprises de l'Amour, the group has placed it's destiny under the lucky star of this composer, with the aim of exploring operatic music in all it's shapes and forms. The work of the ensemble is anchored in a process of musicological and historical research, indeed Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas wishes to highlight scores that have never been released since the 18th century, thanks to music libraries such as Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF) or Bibliothèque de l'Opéra de Paris.

This album is a collection of recently recorded Chamber music by the Swedish composer Maria Lithell Flyg. There's a saxophone quartet, a duo with piano and cello, an oboe quartet, a duo with soprano saxophone and percussion, a duo for two violins and finally a piece for barython, piano, violin and a vocal ensemble. Maria Lithell Flyg has always been driven by curiosity, a hunger for learning, and a desire to express herself. The path to becoming a composer had it's twists and turns, even though she began crafting lyrics and tunes at a very tender age. Though Maria had her formal training relatively late in life, she has already composed a significant number of pieces for some of Sweden's finest musicians, such as the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, Cecilia Zillacus, Olle Persson, Musica Vitae, and others.

The composer Friedrich K. Wanek, in his capacity as an editor for contemporary music, led what he called an Inchorderly double lifeInch. In the job which he earned his living from he was responsible for the works of other composers; he only found time for his own composing in what would have been his leisure hours. As a result, the body of his works is small and has very seldom come to the attention of a broad public. On the other hand he was able to sustain his independence and choose for himself his own compositional direction. This consists of an unbroken connection to the modern classical tradition.
