Various Artists - Beginning of a Legend - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Celedonio Romero was a composer, guitarist and poet known to the public as the founder of the Romero's Quartet. He was born in Cuba 2 March 1913 during the first part of his life the family moved to Spain. He began playing guitar when he was just five years old and after some years, he began his courses at the Malaga conservatory where he studied music theory, harmony and counterpoint, but formally he did not study guitar with a teacher. He debuted in Spain at the age of 22 as a well-known artist. After obtaining an American Visa all of his family moved to the USA and settled in California and during these years Celedonio and his brother Celin founded with their other two brothers the guitar quartet remembered as InchThe Royal Family of GuitarInch. Celedonio made many recordings alone, with the quartet and with his brother Celin as presented on this . He left more than one hundred of compositions and concertos for guitar. This IDIS album is dedicated to the first and very rare studio recordings of Celedonio and Celin Romero performed at the beginning of the Sixties.

The goal of Adam Zukiewicz, a Polish pianist developing his artistic career in North America, is to provide the listener of this recording with a uniquely diverse musical experience. Zukiewicz, being an enthusiast of new music, regularly presents contemporary works and performs premieres of new compositions. This category includes, written especially for the purposes of this album, the cycle Images by Krystian Kielb, or Goodbye Old Friend by Oscar Peterson in the arrangement of Don Thompson and Adam Zukiewicz. It is not a coincidence, however, that the album bears an original title The Beginnings - the most classical piano staples with Beethoven and Chopin show how strong and diverse the musical inspirations of the artist are.
