Kevin Mallon - Overtures 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The troupe of the Comédie-Française pays tribute to Serge Gainsbourg in a musical show that has enjoyed great success. Six actors, singers and musicians from the company perform songs and excerpts from interviews 'We have focused on the amorous, sensual side of Gainsbourg. On the one hand, there's the music, on the other, the man himself, with his repartee, his irreverent, subversive spirit... We have given pride of place to all his emblematic songs, which the younger generation doesn't necessarily know.' Stéphane Varupenne and Sébastien Pouderoux (the duo who adapted the words and music), Benjamin Lavernhe, Noam Morgensztern, Rebecca Marder and Yoann Gasiorowski 'reinvent thirteen classics by the maestro, and it's quite simply stunning', wrote Le Figaro, which ranked the show as one of the must-sees of 2022. And here is the original cast album!

The debut long player from 22 year Kizzy Crawford has already a great deal and garnered gushing praise from all those who have discovered her truly unique music. TheWelsh/Bajan multi-instrumentalist, singer, actress and songwriter draws upon soul, folk, jazz, and pop and infuses her music with the best elements of all, the results set her apart from any of her contemporariesAlbum opener 'Dive' illustrates this adeptly, the slinky neo-soul groove is furnished with touches of retro synth, whilst beautifully crafted backing vocals provide a rich backdrop to her beautifully crafted melody line. Of the other 10 tracks that make up The Way I Dream, the stand out moments are many, including Golden Brown, the folky soul-jazz masterpiece which is an account of confronting, and dealing with prejudice; 'Golden Brown is my grown up self talking to that little girl who felt so confused and alone telling her to be proud of her differences; her brown skin, her big curly hair, her voice, her whole self and to not listen to the words of bullies and ignorant people'.

In his lifetime Wenzel Pichl was esteemed as one of the foremost European composers of the age. A friend of Dittersdorf, whose works exerted a strong influence on his development, Pichl wrote symphonies that rank among the most interesting of the period.
