About this product

Schumann's most popular song cycles performed by mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland, who is established as an exceptional performer with a wide-ranging repertoire from baroque to contemporary. Schumann's astonishing outpouring of songs in his so-called InchLiederjahrInch was inspired by his love for Clara, whom he married in September that year after prolonged and acrimonious opposition from her father. Schumann survived the ordeal of court appearances in which Friedrich Wieck attempted to defame his character. Myrthen (Myrtle Wreath), a group of twenty-six songs based on texts by several poets, including Ruckert, Goethe, Burns, Byron and Thomas Moore, was published on the day of Schumann's wedding. It contains many of his most popular songs. The majority of Schumann's most popular songs (and song-cycles) date from 1840 but his extensive and treasurable work in this genre continued until 1852. At the end of that year he set five poems doubtfully attributed to Mary, Queen of Scots and translated by Gisbert von Vincke - Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart, Opus 135. Written in one of Schumann's least productive years, they were his last songs.

Kielland Mortensen - So Kort Ein Sommar - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Gisle Kverndokk writes InchMelody is something I have been passionate about throughout my career as a composer. Crafting a melody that is captivating yet simultaneously original and unpredictable. What, exactly, makes a melody InchgoodInch? I've been looking into this for years. From studying Palestrina's strict rules, all the way to studying the American songwriters who created the great InchEvergreensInch catalogue. Writing for the voice is of great interest to me - especially musical drama. Throughout my years as a composer, I've composed songs. Everything from opera arias to simple songs. This album unites several of the genres I've worked on. The songs are based on opera, musicals, theatre, folk song programs and poetry evenings. What unites them is my love for poetry. And on this album, you will make the acquaintance of some of the poets I admire the most. Summer is the main theme you'll sense here. The bright summer. The light that gives life, but which eventually turns into darkness - the summer that passes into autumn. The cycle of life and nature. LIV Holtskog's poem «So short is the summer we all have» tells us that everything is perishable. Summer is short. Life is short. But as Ruth Maier writes InchThe days get brighter when you're in love with someone.Inch Shakespeare writes InchShall I compare thee to a summer's day?Inch, while in sonnet 33 he describes how the sun is darkened by clouds when his beloved deceives him. In his poem InchDon't Ask For LoveInch Wildenvey writes InchAfter a spring and a summer, autumn crushes it all - heavy and hard and cold.Inch

Various Artists - Baroque Bass - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

At Footprint Records, we are proud to present our new production Baroque Bass, with the Swedish opera singer Staffan Liljas. This album contains music from the early baroque era for solo bass voice - a quite unique event. Liljas is accompanied by a small basso continuo ensemble consisting of three of Sweden's most prominent musicians in this genre Mime Brinkmann (cello), Jonas Nordberg (theorbo) and Peter Lönnerberg (organ).New impulses swept into music in the early 1600s, and they came primarily from Italy. The catalyst was a shift in instrumental configuration towards 'basso continuo' - the provision of a musical bass line with implied harmonies by a small, modular group of instrumentalists. Music was reclaimed from the floating polyphony that had prevailed for a century or more. Basso continuo literally freed it up by pinning it down. During the pandemic of 2020, Liljas began to con-sider an album exploring the nascent Italian tradition, it's manifestation in sacred music and it's subsequent blossoming in the English Chapel Royal. The result is this program of anthems and motets for bass voice. On this album, we hear music by some of the old mas-ters Claudio Monteverdi, Giovanni Picchi, Francesca Caccini, Domenico Gabrielli, Isabella Leonarda, Girolamo Frescobaldi, William Turner, John Blow and Henry Purcell.

Milosz Pekala - Monopercussions 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Monopercussion 2 is the second expedition of Milosz Pekala - a virtuoso of modern, jazz, experimental and avant pop percussion - into the world of idiophones and membranophones treated soloistically, though supported by twisted electronics, also the ones that are very hardly heard in philharmonic halls, such as the Brazilian pandeiro or the Indian tabla. After all, new rhythms are not to be found in classical composition textbooks. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the list of composers of Monopercussion 2 comprises masters of jazz, ethnic and rock percussion Thymme Jones (American band Cheer-Accident) or Sergio Krakowski from Brazil, besides Pawel Mykietyn or Milosz Pekala himself.
