About this product

Killerstar's self-titled debut album weaves modern and classic rock into a new distinct sound that features sophisticated harmonies, catchy hooks and elements of art rock. The band have joined forces with a team of musicians and trusted collaborators from David Bowie's band Mike Garson on piano, Earl Slick and Mark Plati on guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey and Tim Lefebvre on bass, Emm Gryner on backing vocals, and Donny McCaslin on saxophone. Collectively, these musicians have contributed to almost every era of Bowie's vast discography, from the landmark 'Aladdin Sane' to the final goodbye of 'Blackstar'. Killerstar have created the seemingly impossible a band that's new and essential for 2024, but also one that channels the creative ethos and independent spirit of the man himself. Whilst you may hear some flavours of Bowie, the album really doesn't feel like an homage to The Thin White Duke. And that's simply because it was never intended to be one. This debut by Killerstar is a rock album with it's own distinct character. The album comprises memorable songs that blend crunchy guitars with textured synths, hook-laden vocals and ethereal harmonies. The band is led by Rob Fleming (songwriter, guitar, synths) and James Sedge (Drums). Guest player Earl Slick contributes guitar on all but one track, bass is covered by Gail Ann Dorsey and Tim Lefebvre. Mike Garson plays piano on several songs. Emm Gryner sings backing vocals throughout the album. Mark Plati adds additional guitar and keyboards on a couple of tracks. Donny McCaslin contributes sax playing to the song 'Falling Through'. The album's impeccable musicianship balances widescreen classic rock with a dynamic, modern alt-rock fire and infectious energy. Sonically the album oozes cinematic fidelity and character, mixed by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild).

Gary Versace Trio - Three Track Mind - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

It is often the case that the creation successful art comes down to basic factors. For jazz music, talent and creativity are obvious essentials. But what usually drives music further is trust between performers and a sense of spontaneity in performance. Keyboard master Gary Versace aimed to harness all these elements on his new recording, Three Track Mind, a vibrant collection of fresh arrangements of standards and favorites by a fledging trio, featuring bassist François Moutin and drummer Rudy Royston.Versace has long been admired for his incredible touch on piano, organ, and accordion, appearing alongside a tremendous and eclectic of collaborators. His playing has adorned the work of artists as diverse as John Scofield, Maria Schneider, John Hollenbeck, and Madeleine Peyroux. Versace is also an accomplished composer and educator. In his catholic approach to musical collaboration, Versace has been fortunate to perform with some incredible musicians, including François Moutin and Rudy Royston. Though, opportunities came often to appear on stage with both, the trio had never played all together. Versace first met Royston in performance with the dearly departed trumpeter Ron Miles in Colorado. Once Royston relocated to New York City, the two began performing more and more, including Versace as accordionist in Royston's Flatbed Buggy. Versace and Moutin regularly found themselves on the bandstand, especially behind vocalists. Versace knew that the two would be ideal in trio, as their musicality and energy were ideal for his style of playing. It was with this in mind that Versace invited Moutin and Royston to a two-day session at Chris Sulit's Trading 8s Studio in July of 2024. Versace wanted to create an environment that replicated the feeling of a live set, just interpreting standards and tunes in an open way to provide fresh takes and opportunity for improvisation, del
