Kim Carter - Performs The Hits of Tammy Wynette - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In the heart of California's Central Valley, where neon flickers through the dust and steel guitar hangs in the air like heat off blacktop, Kim Carter found the shape of her sound. Raised on jukebox wisdom and the sharp twang of Bakersfield nights, she learned early where real stories come from-and how to carry them. With this album, Carter pays tribute not in imitation, but in communion-stepping into the songs of one of her greatest influences, Dolly Parton. These are not covers so much as conversations, threaded with grit, reverence, and the kind of lived-in grace that can't be faked. It's no accident Carter chose to dedicate a full record to Dolly. Parton's journey-from Smoky Mountain roots to global icon-was built on sharp songwriting, unflinching candor, and a voice that made country music feel personal for generations. Carter, in her own right, carries that legacy forward. Her path runs through the honky-tonks and backroads of the West Coast, shaped by heartbreak, resilience, and the dusty beauty of a life lived in song.

Digitally remastered and expanded four CD edition of The Warp of Pure Fun, the acclaimed 1985 album by Scottish songwriter Paul Haig, formerly of influential Postcard/postpunk group Josef K. Co-produced by Alan Rankine of The Associates, The Warp of Pure Fun followed a brief flirtation with mainstream dance-pop on the Island Records, and marked a return to warmer, more personal songs and arrangements, live drums and ringing guitars, as well as embracing emergent digital technology such as Akai sequencers and the Kurzweil sampling keyboard. Disc 1 features the original album plus bonus b-sides and mixes. Disc 2 features a fascinating early album demo recorded at home on 4 track equipment, featuring several previously unheard songs, as well as all tracks from Paul's legendary 'lost' second album from 1984, including sublime standout song Shining Hour. Disc 3 features remixes and extended mixes. Disc 4 offers 9 tracks professionally recorded live in Japan in May 1985 (with accompanying radio interview), along with several more demo tracks recorded later that year. Again, several of these songs (Testimony, Wrapped, Bridges) have never heard or released on record before.
