About this product
The history of Polish music has seen many cases of instrumentalists and composers who enjoyed great success abroad while collecting a number of neutral or negative reviews in their home country. This group of distinctive, outstanding artists of the twentieth century undoubtedly includes Alexandre Tansman - an artist who would constantly win the hearts of listeners around the world with his works (including France, the United States, or Japan), whereas in Poland he was almost completely marginalized during his lifetime. This album by Julia Kociuban includes the Piano Concerto No. 1 of aforementioned Alexandre Tansman, very well received in France. For years, the popularity of Grazyna Bacewicz's piano works has been dominated by the worldwide success of the Piano Sonata No. 2 composed in 1953, of which Julia Kociuban is an unsurpassed interpreter. In addition to Tansman's work, the artist decided to familiarize the audience with the equally interesting, though almost completely forgotten, Piano Concerto by the Lódz composer.

Amy Oelsner's homemade pop songs sparkle with these eternal truths that story-telling is part of being alive, and excavating the past is part of growth. Oelsner, who records as Amy O, is a lifer of the indie-pop underground for whom songwriting is a way of processing the passing of time. Her latest, Shell, brims with poetic granular details of everyday life; it's her third studio album, and tenth including her many years of home recordings. Following 2017's Elastic, Oelsner continues living up to that album's namesake Shell similarly stretches with melodies upon melodies. But here there is greater use of space and pace and patience. Perfectly minimal riffs slowly build, ebb, erupt and recoil; guitars and keys layer and swell; there are moments of steady piano-pop, intricate drums and pristine criss-crossing vocal melodies. On Shell, Oelsner deals in the outer and inner boundaries of self. She grapples with mortality, physical transiency and vulnerability, the concept of home. There are homages to the formative relationships that shape our lives, imperfect as they may be. There are meditations on the mundane daily routines that support mental and physical health; in her description of it, Oelsner wanted to honor invisible processing, the inward emotional labor that often goes unseen, the type of internal work that is Inchnot encouraged by society and can make you feel like you're disap- pearing.Inch For Oelsner, music is a way of connecting with herself, her personal history and context. Going into the process of writing Shell, she says InchI was noticing a gap forming between my 'adult' self who was moving forward with her life and parts of my younger self that were stuck behind and hadn't yet caught up. The process of writing and recording Shell played a big role in helping to get some of those stuck parts of myself caught up and able to join me in the present so

Emil Mlynarski is most often associated with his huge commitment and contribution to the dynamic development of Warsaw's musical life at the turn of the 20th century. What is more, the number of honorable and responsible functions he would hold for years ensured him the position of an undisputed authority. Today, unfortunately, hardly anyone remembers that during his lifetime the artist was also valued for his compositional output, which is confirmed by, for example, a prestigious award he received for the Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 11. The present album perfectly fits into promotional activities of unjustly forgotten Polish music.

More and more music lovers are discovering Antonio Rosetti, Mozart's contemporary from Wallerstein in Bavaria. After a number of horn concertos and a few delightful symphonies, these are the two first piano concertos to be released; one of them - also a rarity - was composed by Rosetti together with his pupil Nanette von Schaden. A Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra with delight in playing, a soloist (Nerine Barrett) who hits Rosetti's timbre most perfectly, and a conductor who clearly cares about this music are the features of this recording. A must for every music collection. (customer review) Inch the sound of the TACET recording is of demonstration quality... The notes, by Sterling E. Murray, president of the International Rosetti society, are very thorough. The performances are first-class. As expected, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra is well polished. Johannes Moesus is a young German conductor of considerable quality. He is also president of the International Rosetti society. I have not previously encountered pianist Nerine Barrett. A Jamaican, she has studied and performed widely according the notes. Certainly her performances here indicate we should be hearing more from her (...) Anyone interested in Rosetti is well advised to obtain both recordings.Inch (Fanfare)
