The pieces, recorded here, form merely the tip of a fascinating iceberg. When medievist/archivist André Nieuwlaat initially shared his discoveries (much more Dowland lute music) with lutenist Mike Fentross two years ago, he realized immediately their importance. Every composer has his own musical signature. Trusting the experience that Mike Fentross has gained throughout his thirty-year career as a professional lute player, and as Professor of Lute at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague for the last 15 years, he started to make a selection from all the pieces in the pertinent manuscripts. He let himself be guided by musical intuition, by the essence of the pieces, and by constantly asking himself the question do I recognize Dowland's hand in this? The overall quality of the pieces to choose from was very impressive, and the answer to this question was ' Yes, I recognize Dowland in these works, without a shadow of a doubt'. Let's hop into the time machine and travel back 40 years to the 1980s. At that time, a rebellious thrash metal scene was developing in Germany, producing classics across the board. In 1985 KREATOR came up with InchEndless PainInch; DESTRUCTION created Infernal OverkillInch and SODOM released their EP InchIn The Sign Of EvilInch. Not much later, TANKARD, HOLY MOSES, EXUMER, VIOLENT FORCE, DARKNESS and many others followed. A new era began, Teutonic thrash metal was born and caused a minor earthquake that still leaves it's mark today. The spirit of that era is authentically reflected in the sound of Savage Mania, a Swedish band formed in 2019. The quartet is genuine, bursting with energy, and launched their debut album, which can be mentioned in the same breath as the classics named above. Drummer/Vocalist Viktor Suominen and guitar player Jesper Jönsson founded the band, trying to find their own old-school sound through covers. InchWe met when we were out drinking and a friend of ours introduced us to each other and we started to talk about metal and stuff like thatInch, remembers Suominen. It did not took long until vocalist/guitarist Oliver Rytkönen joined. InchI have known Oliver since we were kids, so we have known each other for a long time. He actually wanted to play Punk, but me and Jesper convinced him during a night at the bar. He has a lot of enegry and his uniqe and agressive vocals enhance that.Inch The line-up was completed only few weeks later with bassist Viktor Lundberg, who they met at a local show, played him some demos afterwards, that convinced him to join. InchFirst time we rehearsed all together, everything felt good, like all the pieces have been connected and we all had a good time. We were around 20-24 years old, when we got together.Inch All the songs develop naturally during their rehearsals, usually starting with a riff from Oliver. Everyone
