Some composers - Enescu, Schumann and Szymanowski among them - have had a go at adding piano accompaniments to Paganini's 24 Capricci for solo violin, and there are arrangements for any number of instrumental combinations. The Ukrainian Myroslav Skoryk (b. 1938) is the first composer to orchestrate all 24 of them, turning Paganini's virtuosic violin-writing into a succession of symphonic fireworks, and often injecting a touch of humor along the way. This recording is released to mark Myroslav Skoryk's 80th birthday, and is the first of a series of collaborations planned between Toccata Classics and the Lviv International Symphony Orchestra in Lviv, western Ukraine. Alexander Zemtsov has been performing as a solo violist since the age of fifteen. At the age of 23 he was appointed Principal Viola of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2012, after ten years with the Orchestra, he left to dedicate himself entirely to his demanding career as soloist, conductor and chamber musician. In 2014 he made his conducting debut with the Lviv International Symphony Orchestra, and the next year was appointed artistic director and principal conductor of the orchestra.

From the budding blossoms of first love and the heat of passion, to when feelings subside and fade away, Inchthe seasons of loveInch are the overarching theme of this program of madrigali concertati by three notable members of the Venetian school Biagio Marini, Giovanni Rovetta and Giovanni Valentini. The madrigals on this recording exemplify the new musical aesthetic of affetti and the seasons of nature are mirrored by the stages of love experienced by the lyrical hero. The ever-changing vocal and instrumental forces of up to six singers and seven instrumentalists lend colorful variety to the recording as it progresses from primavera, estate, autunno and inverno through the seasons of love. As a prelude to the Inchseasons of loveInch, ensemble member and soprano Hana Blažíková sings Marini's doleful lament Le Lagrime d'Erminia. Since it's inaugural concert of continuo anthems by Purcell in 2013, under artistic director Fritz Krämer the professional ensemble Bernvocal has become a fixture in the Swiss early music scene and beyond thanks to it's performances of Renaissance and Baroque vocal repertoire.
