About this product
French music, art, and publishing imprint Shelter Press another chapter of it's on-going documentation of the work of Gisèle Vienne. The Pyre Versions Distilled To Stereo is the score composed and recorded by KTL (Stephen O'Malley and Peter Rehberg) for the dance piece InchThe PyreInch, written and directed by Gisèle Vienne. The music created by KTL incorporates invisible and absent elements - ghosts, one might say. It proceeds from simulated diegetic sounds (which are part of the action) interwoven with real sounds - a musical creation that makes up an extra-diegetic sound score. This composition dizzyingly sculpts the space on stage and generates an impression of great spatial depth, which activates light-sculptures that in turn evoke the illusion of a tunnel, whose depth also results in a play of reflections. Through these different media, the aim is to develop and shatter - without looking to resolve - the exceptional intensity that can arise from the dialectical tension between presence and absence, as well as from the characters that are seeking flight. The music, originally performed on a multi-channel spatialized soundsystem has been distilled to this stereo version for home use, half-speed mastered and cut by Matt Colton. This record announces - and is one chapter - in the forthcoming of the first monograph dedicated to the work of French choreographer Gisèle Vienne and documented by French photographer Estelle Hanania. This book - is one of Shelter Press' most ambitious to date, catalog number 100 - will be released in Spring 2019. Text and voice by Dennis Cooper. Photographs by Estelle Hanania; Design by Bartolomé Sanson. Printed innersleeves; Includes download card; First edition of 700 on clear green wax.

Vinyl LP pressing. By the of Songs To Learn & Sing, Echo & the Bunnymen were a force to be reckoned with, pioneering the post-punk, new wave scene having released four highly acclaimed albums Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here, Porcupine and Ocean Rain. Originally released in 1985, Songs To Learn & Sing is a comprehensive collection of Echo & the Bunnymen's first four albums, from their second single InchRescueInch, to InchThe CutterInch and the anthemic InchThe Killing MoonInch. Also included is InchBring On The Dancing HorsesInch, a single launched at the time in conjunction with Songs To Learn & Sing. One of the most acclaimed British rockers from the 1980s, this legendary band formed in Liverpool in 1978 and were forefathers of the neo-psychedelic movement. Their line up consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant, bass player Les Pattinson and drummer Pete de Freitas, eventually replacing the original drum machine. The band's cult status eventually waned with mainstream success in 1983 after they scored a UK top 10 hit with InchThe CutterInch and attendant album Porcupine which hit #2 in the UK. 1984's album Ocean Rain is considered a landmark post-punk , featuring the lead single InchThe Killing MoonInch. The band split in 1988 but regrouped in 1997, releasing an album in 2014 that was their first UK Top 40 entry since 1999. The band's popularity never quite made the same impact in the US as it did in Europe so they are ripe for rediscovery for anyone interested in bands such as Suede, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Blur, Interpol and Oasis.

Four years after his debut on HESSLE AUDIO (and following releases for IDLE HANDS, HEMLOCK, LIVITY SOUND, and TIMEDANCE), the UK artist delivers an 11 song debut album of dense sonic energy that sits somewhere between leftfield techno and IDM.
