Kurt Vile - Classic Love - VINYL LP

Kurt Vile - InchBack To Moon BeachInch - Back To Moon Beach is an EP by no one's definition but Kurt Vile's. For Kurt, this collection is an expression of just how deep his well of non-album material runs. This includes six tracks culled from various sessions over the last four years, and represents a wide swath of the inspirational musical community Kurt surrounds himself with. (Verve Records)

The whirling twisting music form known as Klezmer, which originated among the Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern Europe, can have a sad or festive climate. Here it has all the sweat of a swing club in Harlem during the Depression, as the Gefilte Swing band, led by Alexandre Litwak, plays it's own festive brand of jazz that borders on world music, with occasional forays into the world of pop. They nonchalantly borrow from the zoot-suit subculture with a shameless desire to live for swing and the result is hedonistic, generous and invigorating. And like the Carte de Séjour group in the 80's, they also have their own version of Douce France, which Charles Trenet wrote during the war, only this time it's sung in Yiddish.

Vinyl LP pressing. Kurt Vile and Steve Gunn collaborated on record in 2015 for their contributions to Three Lobed Recording's Parallelogram series. That previously ornate and limited title is now released in a non limited standing along and outside of that prior collection. The two artists, originally connected by mutual friends and geographic proximity, have long pushed the other's continued artistic development. Despite sharing many live stages over the years, this collaborative album represents the first time that the two have worked together in the studio. Vile's side sees him recast tracks by John Prine (InchWay Back WhenInch) and Randy Newman (InchPretty Boy,Inch featuring some truly electric guitar flourishes from Gunn) as if they were KV originals. The theme of reinvention continues with Vile tearing through a solo banjo rendition of his InchRed ApplesInch (originally from his God Is Saying This To You... LP), re-titled here as InchRed Apples For Tom Scharpling.Inch
