There is more than one way to listen to Beborn Beton's ninth album InchDarkness Falls AgainInch it is possible to just dance and enjoy contemporary synth pop hymns that have a solid musical based in the golden 80s with a dash of cool 90s influences. Catchy tunes and mature songwriting combine to form a sonic joyride. Yet Beborn Beton also put their finger right on the pulse of our time and speak out against misogyny, sexual discrimination, and environmental destruction. Beborn Beton were founded by vocalist Stefan Netschio, keyboard player and drummer Stefan Tillmann, and keyboard player Michael Wagner in 1989. The trio set out with the declared aim to keep synth pop relevant and give it meaning. Following their first two regular albums InchTybaltInch (1993) and InchConcrete GroundInch (1994), Beborn Beton joined renowned acts such as WOLFSHEIM and DE/VISION in a new tag home. Having conquered Germany, the three electro-musicians rapidly expanded their realm abroad with the 1996 full-length InchNightfallInch, followed by InchTruthInch in 1997, and InchFakeInch (1999) that gained the Germans international acclaim by critics and fans alike. By the time, InchRückkehr zum EisplanetenInch ('Return to the Ice-Planet') was released in 2000, Beborn Beton had firmly positioned themselves as a headlining act within their scene and toured all the strongholds of electronic music. Yet heavy touring and the highly demanding creative output of so many excellent albums in quick succession took their toll. Gato Barbieri - Standards Lost And Found 2 - InchGives me the chills! I feel as though Gato has never left us...Inch Laura Barbieri, wife of Gato Barbieri - Standards Lost and Found (Volume 2) hosts two compositions by Ornette Coleman (Jayne and When Will The Blues Leave?) a clear homage to the composer, father of free jazz, and an overt demonstration of musical intent and fundamental aesthetic reference. Charlie Parker's Anthropology is respectfully dedicated to a new interpretation of the more recent jazz tradition from which the four musicians descend, as are the two compositions by Thelonious Monk 'Round Midnight and Epistrophy, which, along with Jamal's fresh New Rhumba however, testify to an already much-transformed tradition. Gato's In Search of the Mystery and Gato Blues fit perfectly into the set list and reflect the significant role of the Argentine tenor player who in this way places his compositional signature on the record. Jayne is from Coleman's first album Something Else!!!! from 1958. Anthropology explodes at a tempo of 140 bpm in cut time and the virtuoso exposition of the melody showcases Gato's high technical ability and precise timing. The moment his solo starts Gato gives the impression of a saxophonist who could easily play on all the chord changes using the be-bop language, but deliberately decides not to. New Rhumba was composed and recorded by pianist Ahmad Jamal when he was only 25 years old and had already matured a thoroughly personal style. 'Round Midnight, Thelonious Monk's celebrated ballad from the early 1940s, is included as a tribute to the great pianist, but certainly also because of the extreme beauty of the melody that Gato tackles with no special elaboration while hinting at flickers of high notes and always using a full, harsh sound. Produced by Markus Siegenhort (Lantlôs), Endstrand is a 13 song end-time vision hosting apparitions of empty beaches, bunkers in the dunes, novel biological phenomena, washed up artifacts, noise distorted signals and omnipresent whirring, all of which float above the backdrop of Valborg's utterly barbaric death crunch. Forging brutal and wasted, yet powerful music, Valborg unleashes sound as scorched-earth policy on Endstrand, delivering an immersive mysteriousness and darkness that has earned the group the right to be called one of Europe's most exciting extreme metal bands.
