The talented Chemirani family - Keyvan, Bijan and Maryam - have recorded an album called Hâl (pronounced 'Hol'), which explores the intersection of Iranian, Indian and Irish music. Subtitled 'Love ballads', it features love poems with texts sung in English or Persian. The 'hâl' corresponds to the moment when one let's oneself go, that ecstatic state between awakening and self-forgetfulness... Keyvan, a zarb and percussion virtuoso, and Bijan, an expert on the saz lute and also a percussionist, are known from the highly regarded Trio Chemirani, formed with their father. This album introduces their sister Maryam, a singer but also a nurse, who followed in the footsteps of Mother Teresa in India, then worked in the Alpes de Haute Provence. Keyvan devised this program especially for her, inspired both by her voice which is 'warm and deeply generous' and her compassionate spirit which imbues her performance with added emotion. The incredible flute player Sylvain Barou, their brother in music, completes the ensemble. Album Tracks 1. Bâman Sanamâ 2. Lord Baker 3. Seven Fishes 4. An Indian Way 5. 138 6. Miraqsan 7. Berceuse Pour Maël 8. Irish Suite Emmet's Hedgehog/The Kish's Jig 9. The Limerick Rake

Every instrument's repertoire is usually rich in works composed in very idiomatic ways and realized by authors often unknown to the general audience. Especially in the 19th Century it is possible to notice a very rich literature dedicated to the most different musical instruments able to satisfy the needs and requirements of the one who had to perform as a soloist. In the case of oboe the works we present are an example of a production that collects virtuosity and melodic pleasure. They are all by 19th Century Composers from all over the world - Spain (Escobés), France (Saint-Saëns, Stupuy), The Netherlands (Barth) and England (Walmisley)- everyone with their own peculiarities but united in the perfect agreement of the virtuosic and expressive resources of oboe. Enrico Calcagni is a keen scholar of his instrument repertoire both classic and contemporaneous (as you can see in Vermeer 40020 Henry's Adventure) and in this we have a tangible interpretation of instrumental brilliancy and vividness giving us back in their authenticity too long forgotten works.
