About this product

Franz Ignaz Beck was a InchMannheim pupilInch from the very beginning. The son of the court oboist Franz Aloys Beck, he was taught by other court musicians after his father's early death before studying in Venice with Baldassare Galuppi and ultimately making his way via Naples to France. He was twenty-three when three of his symphonies won acclaim in Paris; yet he was soon drawn onward-to Marseille and then to Bordeaux, where, until 1798 (for more than thirty-five years), he served as Maître de Musique, overseeing operas and concerts as well as the performance of both his own works and those of others. The six symphonies Op. 4 date from his early years on the Garonne and are now presented complete. They represent Beck's final contributions to the genre in which he undertook bold yet successful experiments-stormy and urgent, filled with striking turns that electrified audiences and explain why he was sometimes hailed as the InchBerlioz of the eighteenth century.Inch The music from the melodrama Pandora, composed some twenty years later, forms an illuminating counterpoint.

Dusty Springfield - Reputation: Expanded Deluxe Collector's Edition - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Digitally remastered and expanded three disc (two CDs + PAL/Region 0 DVD) edition. Dusty Springfield's late career renaissance owed it's triumphs more than a little to her collaborations with the Pet Shop Boys, a partnership that resulted in four tracks being written by them and five tracks being co-produced by them for her 1990 album Reputation. This collector's edition includes the original album, all known extended versions and remixes, the b-sides from the singles released from it and the promotional videos of those singles on a DVD PAL, 0. Also, although not part of the original , this edition also includes Shep Pettibone's Disco Mix version of the 1987 Pet Shop Boys with Dusty Springfield hit 'What Have I Done To Deserve This?' (UK#2, US#2) on which Dusty was joint lead vocalist. This was the song to catapult Dusty back into the public eye and the charts for the first time in well over a decade. Packaged in a mini LP style sleeve, this special collector's edition is completed with a 32 page full color booklet containing extended sleeve notes that compile Dusty's own thoughts on the album and it's songs. Also included are exclusive insights from Dusty's close friend and backing singer Simon Bell and from Tris Penna who worked for EMI at the time of the album's original and who had special responsibility for overseeing it.

Chapel Choir Of The Royal Hospital Chelsea - Light out of Darkness - Choral Music by Edward Elgar - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In January 2026 The Elgar Society marks it's 75th anniversary, and SOMM Recordings celebrates the event with several Elgar releases in gratitude for the society's generous support and encouragement from 1998 to the present day. Light Out of Darkness, Choral Music by Elgar was recorded in February 2025, with the support of The Elgar Society, and continues the inspired journey of the composer's musical development in a series of widely acclaimed releases by SOMM. This present includes five world-premiere recordings.Light Out of Darkness features the Chapel Choir Of The Royal Hospital Chelsea conducted by their Music Director, the multiple prize-winning conductor and pianist William Vann. This follows their hugely successful first recording of Elgar's choral works for SOMM, The Reeds by Severn Side [SOMMCD 0278]. The featured organist is Callum Knox, an emerging talent from Australia.Edward Elgar (1857-1934) had an unorthodox musical education that turned out to be a fertile training ground for his evolution into one of the most important composers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. He Inchlearned on the job,Inch so to speak, studying scores and instruction manuals in his father's music shop; assisting his father who played the organ at Worcester's St George's Church; and graduating to organist for St George's in 1885.From these early years come world-premiere recordings of the hymn Praise ye the Lord, 1878, and the first of Elgar's seven settings of Thomas Aquinas's O Salutaris Hostia composed c.1877. Two later versions-from c.1880 (dedicated InchTo my father - with affectionInch) and 1882-are also included here. This last is another world-premiere recording, as is Elgar's a cappella setting of the Stabat Mater from 1886. In 1888, now aged 31, Elgar composed the dignified Ecce sacerdos magnus (Behold a great priest) for a visit to St. George's by the newly installed

Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt - V2: Overtures - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Paul Lincke Overtures Vol. 2. And shortly after Vol. 1, Vol. 2 is already released with further melody-saturated overtures by Paul Lincke, which are thus as good as complete on cpo. InchWhat Strauss once was for Vienna - Lincke is for Berlin!Inch. These verses by comedian Franz Heigl on Paul Lincke's 75th birthday celebrate the composer not only as the epitome of Berlin light music, but also as the founder of the associated operetta. Just as Strauss's Die Fledermaus was to Viennese operetta, his Frau Luna (soon to be released on cpo) is still considered a prime example of the Berlin variety of this genre, even though it did not take it's present form until 30 years after it's premiere. In addition to the overture to Frau Luna, there are other entertaining pieces worth hearing - also from one-act operas - such as the overture to the operetta Das blaue Bild from his successful series at the Apollo Theater in 1906, a InchFantasy in One Act.Inch It's very Parisian overture is characterized by a furious presto beginning, striking cornet and clarinet solos, and it's sometimes lyrically rapturous, sometimes exuberantly lively dance-like gesture. True authentic Paul Lincke discoveries!
