About this product

Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 . Indistinct Conversations follows 2017's acclaimed Life After Youth-at the time Land of Talk's first album in seven years. The saw praise from Pitchfork, Paste, The AV Club, and NPR Music, among others. All 11 songs on Indistinct Conversations were written by Elizabeth Powell (vocals/guitar/keys), and share the hallmarks of the Land of Talk sound her silvery vocals; masterful, at times cacophonous guitar playing; and a stream-of-conscious lyricism-here perhaps at her most emotionally vulnerable and honest. Powell produced and arranged the tracks together with her bandmates Mark InchBuckyInch Wheaton (drums/keys) and Christopher McCarron (bass), and the trio recorded the album in a studio built by McCarron in Wheaton's apartment basement.

Connections - Cool Change - Cool Blue - VINYL LP

Before ALL OF THIS Connections needed... Cool Change. Then ALL OF THIS happened, things slowed down, things got weird, the world split in half, things like this should never happen. Now more than ever we need... Cool Change. Before and during ALL OF THIS, Connections assembled to make Cool Change, their sixth LP, with new member JP Herrmann at his studio, the long-revered Center for Japanese Helium. The balance held. Cool Change is being released in the last year of the first decade of Connections. Why shouldn't it be full of brighter, sharper, hooks of suburban pop? Hyper-regional and universal? These songs want basements, and grandstands, and the occasional festival - once ALL OF THIS is good. Those songs were written as an exercise as a breakup album though there was no relationship currently active to break up. A fantasy of a life not currently being lived or necessarily wanted. Good or bad. Post-ALL OF THIS malaise. Connections are in perpetual motion (there's more where this came from), but the moment calls for Cool Change. Listen to the moment. Cool Change.

Land of Talk - Performances (ecomix Vinyl) - VINYL LP

Lizzie Powell has always been a risk-taker. As the creative force behind the influential Canadian outfit Land of Talk, the Montreal-based songwriter has over the past 15 years amassed a catalog of four unimpeachable albums that stretch the boundaries of indie rock. But Performances, their fifth LP, feels like a total reinvention an unflinching statement from an artist who's not afraid to say how they feel. Though it trades muscular guitar rock for understated piano, it's still the most urgent, cathartic, and personal of Powell's career so far. InchIt's the weirdest, mightiest little record I've made since I used to write music on my four-track when I was 14,Inch says Powell. InchI needed to make a love letter to my teenage self by being more vulnerable and doing all the production myself.Inch Here, they doggedly value their own intuition over anything else to make their most rewarding album yet. Performances is a defiant and resonant blow against expectations and outside pressure. It's an LP showcasing an artist without constraints and allowing themself to be radically honest. InchThe album title is very literal,Inch says Powell. InchI'm performing what's in my brain but I'm tired of performing femininity for the music industry, femininity in my life, respectability, and vulnerability. I'm trying to grow out of these and break out of these roles in my life.Inch Powell's fearlessness as a songwriter has already led to Land of Talk boasting an unmistakably essential discography but with this album, they find the perfect opportunity to give themself the grace to truly double down on their own vital sensibilities. They usher the songs every step of the way from demoing to producing, imbuing each track with immense care and unfiltered feeling. InchThis is me reclaiming Land of Talk as it always has been.Inch1. Land of Talk - Some Are Lakes - VINYL LP

This album encompasses a great deal with very little, an aesthetic in stark contrast to orchestral pop and digi-tweaked indie chic. These songs set a perfect bridge from the jangling dissonance and ferocious doubled voicings of the band's debut, to the road-weathered clarity and reflection singer/songwriter Elizabeth Powell has now begun to own so fully.
