Laura Veirs - My Echo - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

My Echo is Laura Veirs' eleventh studio album, and includes appearances and features from Jim James, Bill Frisell, Karl Blau, Matt Ward and others. Laura says InchMy Echo is Inchmy songs knew I was getting divorced before I didInch album. My conscious mind was trying as hard as I could to keep my family together but my subconscious mind was working on the difficult struggles in my marital life. I was part of a InchSecret Poetry GroupInchthat met and wrote poems monthly for a year during the writing of this record. Many of my poems turned into songs for this album. By the time the album was being mixed last fall, my ex-husband/producer Tucker Martine and I had decided to go our separate ways. We were a great musical team for many years but we struggled to be compatible in our marriage and family life and that struggle is reflected in this album. In this new batch of songs I imagine escaping from some sort of prison or cage. Advancing age, the confines of domesticity, our oppressive government and the threat of the apocalypse permeate these songs. In these songs my heart craves certainty and permanence but none is to be found. It's an album about disintegration. It reveals my artist's intuition at work. Inch

Laura Gibson - Empire Builder - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2016 album from the singer/songwriter. Empire Builder is named for the Amtrak route Laura Gibson took while moving from Portland, Oregon to New York City in the summer of 2014. Out of her comfort zone, she found even more of a challenge than she'd envisioned. Immediately upon arrival, she broke her foot and barely left her 5th floor apartment for the first two months. Then, on March 26th, 2015, her East Village building burned to the ground in a horrific gas explosion which killed two people and left many homeless. Gibson escaped from her apartment unharmed, but lost everything all identification, eyeglasses, musical instruments, years of notebooks and every word she had written in response to her move. It is no surprise that Empire Builder stands as her most personal record to date. But while the making of the album was cathartic, it's not just an auto-biographical mirror-gazing exercise; it's a huge leap forward for Gibson as a songwriter, composer and producer. Gibson gathered a stellar band of old friends to complement her songs guitarist/bassist Dave Depper (Death Cab for Cutie, Menomena), drummer/percussionist Dan Hunt (Neko Case) and composer/violinist Peter Broderick. Other contributors include Nate Query of the Decemberists and vocalist Alela Diane. ?

New Found Glory - Listen Up! - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

It's been decades since New Found Glory were etched onto pop-punk's Mount Rushmore, but as the Coral Springs, Florida, quartet approach their 30th anniversary, they've proven with their 11th studio album Listen Up! - and first for Pure Noise Records - that they still have plenty to say. Shaped by guitarist Chad Gilbert's battle with metastatic cancer and the enduring bond with bandmates Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, and Cyrus Bolooki, the record captures resilience and gratitude in tightly wound riffs and sing-along hooks reminiscent of their early 2000s classics. Written face-to-face in Gilbert's Nashville home with a riff-first mentality, the album recalls Sticks and Stones and Catalyst while pushing forward with songs like first single Inch100%,Inch road-tested alongside The Offspring and Jimmy Eat World. Produced by Steve Evetts with contributions from Dan O'Connor of Four Year Strong, Listen Up! Balances nostalgia with urgency, embodying the band's mission to inspire a new generation of fans while offering longtime listeners a renewed sense of strength, positivity, and joy-because, as Pundik sings on InchBeer And Blood Stains,Inch at the end of the day, Inchit's good to be alive.Inch
