Lee,Wilma / Cooper,Stoney - Hickory Years 1955-1962 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Of all the husband/wife duos in Country Music, WILMA LEE & STONEY COOPER enjoyed one of the more extraordinary careers, being operative from the late 30s until Stoney's death, in 1977. Remarkably, throughout this period they continued to perform in a traditional, old school Appalachian Mountain music style, ignoring all contemporary trends, registering their biggest hits in the late 50s, directly in the teeth of Rock & Roll, Rockabilly and the newly-emergent Nashville Countrypolitan sound. In 1974, Wilma Lee was awarded the title of InchThe First Lady Of BluegrassInch by the Smithsonian Institute. This compilation presents the Very Best of their singles for Hickory Records, between 1955-62, which includes a dozen C&W chart hits and several sides which are difficult to find elsewhere on CD.
