Leon Russell - Best of Leon Russell - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

With a musical career spanning over 50 years, Bettye LaVette is rightly recognized as one of the finest vocalists and one of the great interpreters of song. Her discography spans five decades, but it is within the past decade that she has finally been recognized as one of America's finest vocal talents. Bettye has teamed up with producer Joe Henry once again, and the result is a stunning new album, InchWorthy,Inch featuring 11 songs composed by writers such as Mick Jagger & Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, John Lennon & Paul McCartney, Mickey Newbury, Beth Nielsen Chapman & Mary Gauthier (who wrote the album title track) and Joe Henry among others. InchWorthyInch is a supreme achievement from a uniquely gifted performer.

Ex Hex is a power trio from Washington, DC. Drums, bass, guitar, P90s, searing leads this is unapologetic rock 'n' roll spat out in the discipline's mother tongue. With Wild Flag on hiatus, Mary Timony (Autoclave, Helium) needed a new outlet, so she retreated to her basement and started writing. Mary found Laura Harris (The Aquarium, Benjy Ferree) and they hit it off immediately. In walked Betsy Wright from the wilds of Virginia. Betsy is a performer and an ace piano player, and before long, she was slinging a cherry SG as the third member of Ex Hex.

Bill Wyman, Steve Winwood, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Delaney & Bonnie, George Harrison, Joe Cocker, Charlie Watts they all appear on Leon's 1970 debut! His own Delta Lady joins a Song for You; Hummingbird; Dixie Lullaby, and more brilliant stuff.
