This brand new 1/600 scale plastic model kit of the HMS Ajax Light Cruiser (Level 3) by Airfix comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened box with vintage style packaging. The kit contains 91 detailed parts molded in light gray and does not include a display stand. Paint and cement are required but not included. Dimensions are approximately L-11 inches and W-1.125 inches when assembled. HMS Ajax was a Leander-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1935, and gained fame for its role in the Battle of the River Plate in December 1939, where it, alongside HMS Exeter and HMS Achilles, confronted the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee and forced it to retreat to Montevideo. The ship also saw extensive action in the Mediterranean, including the Battle of Crete in 1941, providing naval gunfire support and protecting convoys under frequent air attacks. Ajax participated in later operations such as the invasion of Sicily (Operation Husky) and the Dodecanese Campaign before being decommissioned in 1948 and scrapped in 1949.
