About This Item

This brand new 1/35 scale plastic model kit of the JagdPanzer 38(t) Hetzer "Early Version" Tank by Airfix comes in the manufacturer’s original unopened box with vintage style packaging. The officially licensed kit contains over 100 detailed parts molded in light brown unless otherwise indicated, and includes decals to design the tank in 2 different schemes. Paint and cement are required but not included, and the kit does not come with a display stand. The assembled model measures approximately L-9.56, W-3.58 inches. The JagdPanzer 38(t), commonly known as the "Hetzer," was introduced by Nazi Germany in 1944 as a lightweight, cost-effective tank destroyer. The early version was based on the Czech-built Panzer 38(t) chassis and featured a compact, sloped armor profile that provided strong defensive qualities despite its smaller size. Armed with the 75mm PaK 39 L/48 anti-tank gun, it was capable of disabling most Allied tanks encountered on the battlefield. Early Hetzers were produced rapidly, emphasizing speed of manufacture and tactical agility. They saw significant deployment on the Eastern Front in mid-1944, excelling in defensive ambushes and counterattack roles, using their low silhouette for concealment in terrain and urban areas. On the Western Front, the Hetzer participated in delaying actions during the Allied advance after D-Day, notably in France and the Battle of the Bulge, often fielded by Wehrmacht infantry divisions and SS Panzergrenadier units. Despite its cramped interior and limited crew visibility, the Hetzer’s combination of firepower, mobility, and compact design made it a formidable opponent and an efficient mobile anti-tank resource. This 1:35 scale model faithfully reproduces the original wartime vehicle, including authentic early-production details such as the flat mantlet and pre-standardized tool layout, making it ideal for collectors and historical diorama builders.
