Q: Is there a volume display on this soundbar ?
A: Yes there is.
Q: Where are the instructions that go with this for use and hookup?
A: The manual is on the internet but is very confusing!
Q: what is the difference between a 2.1 channel and a 3.1 channel system?
A: The difference is in the number of front firing speakers. As a 2.1 system, the LG 2.1-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and DTS Virtual: X, Model # SL5Y only has 2 stereo speakers (Left & Right) in the sound bar. In a 3.1 system, the Soundbar will also have a center speaker in addition to the two stereo speakers (i.e a center, left and right speakers.) hence the 3.1 configuration. The [.1] is for the Subwoofer...^IFV
Q: Does this come with all the cords necessary to hook it up or do you need to purchase more?
A: Yes. Came with everything needed.
A: The soundbar does connect with cords. Power cord and either hdmi(arc) or optical cord. I solved by mounting the soundbar below the first tv. Mount sold separately, be sure to get one that fits. I already had power behind the tv. So all cords are out of site this way. Hope that helps.
A: Yes, you can run your Xbox through it, but the SL5Y Sound Bar will not pass 4K Ultra HD through to the TV. It still looks and sounds great. I pass my Xbox to the Sound bar HDMI in and then the HDMI ARC out to the TV's HDMI ARC in port. I do get Surround 5.1 this way as well.
A: My apologies for the confusion. The SL4Y has the following dimensions: Soundbar (WxHxD) 35.1" x 2.3" x 3.4", Subwoofer (WxHxD) 6.8" x 15.4" x 10.3". ^CP
