About this product
Since moving to Lopez Island in Puget Sound last year, Liam Bailey has learned to simplify. InchI want to sing about the mystery of our brief and beautiful time on earth together. It's not that I want to understand it or define it for anybody else, but I need my listeners to know that I am in awe of our earthly circumstances and that they should be too. There's a party going on and we're all invited.Inch Sometimes Bailey's dissection of the mystery can come across as religious examination, or at least flirting with those concepts, but really it's just more evidence of the way that bluegrass, blues and other American music has seeped under his skin. While Bailey has always been comfortable playing a range of styles, he's now loose enough in his interpretive abilities to experiment with instruments he's not proficient in. He has abandoned the electric guitar for the mandolin, and has been playing the three-string tres in a Cuban band on Lopez. After attending high school in Holland and the USA, Bailey attended college in Boston. Inch I was shamed out of my heavy metal passion and my tastes changed very quickly,Inch Bailey recounts. InchI got right into jazz and then bluegrass after that.Inch His biggest influence has been guitarist Bill Frisell. InchHe wasn't ashamed of his roots in rock and roll. He incorporated them into his jazz playing and melded them with bluegrass and Americana. He has a unique approach and so do I.Inch Like Frisell, Bailey didn't want to be limited to one genre of music. InchI became passionate about everything I heard,Inch Bailey admits. InchIf I listened to Django then I wanted to play swing, if I listened to Dave Douglas I wanted to play jazz and if I listened to Jeff Buckley then I wanted to play rock. It's still that way.Inch In addition to guitar, he took on the fiddle as well as the mandolin. He also began to sing. His first tag-released a

Big Crown Records is proud to present Zero Grace, Liam Bailey's sophomore album on the tag. Following the success of 2020's Ekundayo album, the tried and true chemistry of Bailey and producer Leon Michels (El Michels Affair) is on full display again as they take the sound they established and push it further. On Zero Grace they lean more into the bleeding heart singer-songwriter side of Liam. The result, much like Bailey himself, is impulsively honest without reserve.Born and raised in Nottingham, England, the son of an English mother and 2nd generation Jamaican English father, Liam will admit his early childhood was fairly chaotic and filled with Inchall the cliche racism that happens when people started mixing up in the '80s in England.Inch Liam got his early influences from his mom's record collection. Bob Marley and Dillinger, Stevie Wonder and The Supremes, The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix would eventually shape the singer/songwriter we know today. Fast-forward to 2005, Liam is in London performing at every open mic and acoustic night he could, hustling with hopes of landing a record deal. It was through this time that Liam first teamed up with Michels, musician/producer luminary, and the co-founder of Brooklyn's own Big Crown Records. Liam flew out to New York and those first sessions together produced the now classic tunes InchWhen Will They LearnInch and InchI'm Gonna Miss YouInch which still gets spins at Reggae spots around the globe and were co-signed by heavy hitters like David Rodigan & Don Letts. That first trip to NYC brought a lot of industry attention to Liam, including being noticed by a just-famous Amy Winehouse who heard one of Liam's apartment-made, lo-fi recordings, and liked what she heard. Regardless of the audio quality, Liam's particular sound shone through-all guitar, warm-rough and genuine soul. Eventually Liam signed to Polydor and wound up bum
![Liam Singer - Finish Him - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/4869e238-9d64-4094-b343-3452f11d842a.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Liam Singer is a Portland, OR native who spent most of his youth in one of four places 1) taking music lessons on piano and harpsichord 2) hunching over his beloved 4-track in his bedroom 3) working at a local junk store, where he spent most of his money accumulating old beaten-up synths 4) attending high school on the wealthy side of town, where he wasn't exactly a loner but didn't fit in much either. His music has always straddled the line between formal classical knowledge and blind, self-taught fumbling on unfamiliar instruments like the accordion and theremin. With Finish Him, Singer revives his love of synthesizers and 80s pop for a more direct-to-the-hips approach than his previous material, but with a Baroque twist and a flair for melodrama. Think Philip Glass' Einstein on the Beach as an off-Broadway musical starring Kate Bush, Nick Cave, and Sufjan Stevens and you're in the ballpark. Finish Him was recorded and co-produced by Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, Erik Friedlander, etc.). The arrangements were developed with and feature Cheryl Kingan (75 Dollar Bill, The Scene Is Now) Jesse Perlstein (Sontag Shogun) and David Flaherty (Cuddle Magic).1 Nest Of Nerves2 Offering3 Test Tone4 Until I Fall5 The Gambrels Of The Sky'6 Apollo7 Love Me Today8 The Devil9 Bending Away (Remove Your Mind)10 Down, Down, Down11 Protection Poem12 Still Life13 I Want To See Sparks14 French Goth
