About this product

Liszt's Etudes d'execution transcendante enshrine the spirit of High Romanticism, embodying extremes of expressive drama and technical virtuosity. His encyclopedic approach to technique is shown at it's most dazzling in this cycle, heard here in the 1852 revision which Liszt himself declared 'the only authentic one.' Integration of musical and technical elements is absolute, and the music's narratives are supported by dramatic physicality, an orchestral richness of sonority, and an exceptional coloristic quality. The young Moscow-born Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg is lauded across the globe as a deeply sensitive, insightful and compelling musician. Born in 1984 in Moscow, he moved to Tel Aviv at an early age, studying with his mother and then with Arie Vardi. He went on to win numerous awards, most recently the Second Prize at the Rubinstein Competition in 2011, and in 2013 he won First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, catapulting his career to a new level.

Trinity Choir - Christmas at Trinity - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The choir at Trinity Church, Wall Street, led by Owen Burdick has here recorded a truly delightful disc of Christmas favorites, book-ended by the traditional Once in Royal David's City and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing - as a nod to the famous Kings College program of lessons and Carols - and filled with choral music ranging from the familiar to the lesser-known. This recording follows their tremendously successful recording of Handel's Messiah released two years ago and positively reviewed in The New York Times and Early Music America and called by American Record Guide, an Inchexcellent addition to the catalogInch. Here again, Burdick and Trinity Church offers Christmas gems all recorded in the glorious acoustic of that historic space. Trinity Church holds a special place in the history of Christmas music, having been the site of the New World premiers of both the Messiah and the Christmas carol Silent Night included here.

Luisa Francesconi - Te Deum / Credo - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Dom Pedro I was the first Emperor of Brazil, proclaiming it's independence from Portugal in 1822. A gifted musician, Pedro I is one of only a few monarchs to have become known as a composer. A performance of his Abertura ('Overture') was organized in Paris in 1832 with some in the audience convinced that it had been composed by Rossini, while the Hino da Independênciado Brasil ('Hymn to the Independence of Brazil') remains one of the country's best-loved anthems. Operatic in character, the Te Deum celebrated the baptism of Pedro's first son, and the joyous Credo is one of his most frequently performed works.
