About this product
Little Richard was one of the unique personalities who were at the core of the explosion of rock 'n' roll in the middle and later years of the 1950s, his highly individual piano style combining with his unmistakeable vocal delivery and extraordinary stage persona to bring him a succession of landmark hits like InchTutti FruttiInch, InchLong Tall SallyInch, InchLucilleInch and InchGood Golly Miss MollyInch which helped inspire the British Invasion bands of the '60s and have become staples of rock 'n' roll bands the world over. His was not a rise to instant stardom, however, making his first records in 1951 for RCA before recording for the Peacock tag and then joining Specialty, for whom he had his biggest hits, later making religious records for Mercury and other smaller labels. This great-value 60-track 2-CD set comprises almost all the A & B sides which he released during the first, and most important, decade or so of his career - we have left out one or two of the gospel tracks he released as singles in the late '50s and early '60s so that we could include the Specialty EP and album tracks which were not otherwise released on singles. We also include both sides of a rarely-heard record he made with The Upsetters in 1962. It makes for a thorough and extremely entertaining overview of his early career, and naturally includes the 21 chart entries he had in the US and UK during that time among some less well-known material.

Two CD set. After 50 years of hit making and with international album sales well into the multi-millions, Gordon Lightfoot is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of all time. Inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2012, his songs have been recorded by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, and Barbara Streisand. His own recordings of InchEarly Morning Rain, Inch InchIf You Could Read My Mind, Inch InchCarefree HighwayInch, InchThe Wreck of the Edmund FitzgeraldInch and InchSundownInch are still among the most performed songs on radio in North America. A lifetime spent performing live with his band, Gordon Lightfoot singled out London's Royal Albert Hall as one of his favourite venues to play, and recorded his seventh appearance there in concert on May 24, 2016. In the final weeks prior to his passing on May 1, 2023, Gordon Lightfoot insisted that this live album be released as soon as possible, approving the artwork and making it clear that no changes were to be made to the recording.

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Charismatic showman Richard blazed a trail with his sequined jackets and frenetic pounding of the Piano keys. His breakthrough track Tutti Frutti, would not only make him a star and kick off an influential career that would span over half a century, but was one of the templates for what we know as popular music. Indeed, as People Magazine proclaimed, 'There could not have been a Michael Jackson if there had not been a Little Richard.Inch

The Chordettes were one of the female vocal groups who epitomised the style and atmosphere of early '50s popular music but who continued to have pop hits through into the rock 'n' roll era following their landmark No. 1 in 1954 with InchMr. SandmanInch. Formed in Wisconsin just after WWII, they moved from singing folk music to performing barbershop harmony, and in 1949 made a winning appearance on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts radio show leading to their making a number of records for Columbia, without kickstarting their career in a major way. When Archie Bleyer, the musical director of Talent Scouts, launched the Cadence tag in 1953, he signed The Chordettes, and they hit the No. 1 spot with their second record for the tag InchMr. SandmanInch, the first of fifteen chart entries they had through to 1961. This great-value 60-track 2-CD set comprises their early 78s for Columbia along with all of the A and B sides for Cadence through to 1962, by which time their chart career was over, plus selected titles from their various albums on Columbia and Cadence during this era, InchClose HarmonyInch, InchSing Your RequestsInch, InchDrifting And DreamingInch and InchNever On SundayInch. It naturally features all their hits, including InchMr. SandmanInch and the Top 5 classics InchBorn To Be With YouInch and InchLollipopInch. It's an enjoyable and evocative showcase for their distinctive talent.
