Limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Reggae Charmers is the 1970 album by Lloyd Charmers, born Lloyd Tyrell. His career spans some of the most fertile periods of Jamaica's musical history. From the late-'50s era of Jamaican shuffle R&B and the subsequent ska boom, to the rocksteady and roots reggae of the late '60s and early '70s, Charmers made valuable contributions not only as a vocalist, but as a session musician and producer, as well. Charmers took up the piano in 1966. A few years later, he was an accomplished enough player to form a band of his own with a few friends. The band eventually backed Ken Parker, Max Romeo, Pat Kelly, John Holt, and Slim Smith & the Uniques (Charmers would also spend some time singing for the Uniques). Buoyed by their reputation for laying down some of the rawest and driving rhythms of the time. Lloyd Parks, born on May 26, 1948, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a renowned reggae icon known for his soulful melodies and skillfully played bass lines. In the late 1960s, he performed with the Invincibles band, which included notable talents such as Ansell Collins, Sly Dunbar, and Ranchie McLean, before joining forces with Wentworth Vernal to form The Termites. He launched a successful solo career, releasing a series of self-produced singles, including the massive hit 'Officially' in 1973; this single also provided the title for the legendary and highly sought-after 1973 album, now reissued for the first time. Acknowledged as a talented studio bassist, Parks supported various reggae artists, including Justin Hinds on Duke Reid's Treasure Isle tag. He was a member of Skin, Flesh and Bones, alongside Ansell Collins and Ranchie MacLean, contributing to Al Brown's hit 'Here I Am Baby.' When the group began recording for Channel One Studios, Parks renamed them The Revolutionaries and later joined Joe Gibbs' house band, The Professionals, showcasing his skills on hits like Althea & Donna's 'Uptown Top Ranking.' Revolution Dub is a studio album by Jamaican's legendary dub producer Lee Perry and his studio band the Upsetters, and was originally released in 1975. The album, which features nine pared-down dubs, was the last in a line of releases that year in which Perry began exploring the possible studio techniques at his recently opened studio Black Ark in Kingston, Jamaica. In addition to making early use of a drum machine, the album is characterised by unpredictable drops in the beat, drastic stereo panning and samples of dialogue from television series, particularly British sitcoms, while Perry sings on the album in an eccentric falsetto and portrays different personas, including television characters from Kojak and Doctor on the Go. Critics and authors have described Revolution Dub as one of Perry's most important and exemplary albums, although some consider it one of his more overlooked productions. The use of sampled television dialogue has been highlighted by several writers as innovative for predating the sampler and for it's unusual context, while the album was later influential on artists including Stevie Wonder and Holger Czukay.
