Louis Armstrong - Happy Birthday Louis: Live At Newport Festival - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Louis Armstrong - Louis Armstrong, Vol.8 [COMPACT DISCS] date 06/26/2007

This package features stunningly remastered sound (even the earliest cuts from 1938 are hiss free, full-bodied and remarkably clear), along with a classy 16-page booklet with rare photos and detailed session liner notes. It's not the final word on the prolific and multi-talented musician who some consider the most influential jazzman ever, but is an excellent overall portrait of Satchmo, covering numerous highlights in the career of this legendary American artist. Hip-O. 2006.

Louis Armstrong made a greater impact on American popular music than any other single artist before or since. InchWhat A Wonderful WorldInch became his biggest commercial success, first in the UK and decades later in the rest of the world. Armstrong traveled to England to celebrate this unexpected hit and gave his last great performance, which found him looking back at his entire musical career. That performance, recorded at BBC studios in 1968, was miraculously captured in high fidelity audio and video, and we are proud to this collection for the first time.
