Ludwig van Beethoven - String Quartets Op. 74 & 95 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Vanbrugh Quartet - String Quartets 1 & 2 [COMPACT DISCS] date 06/15/2010

Adorno's speech reads like a commentary on recording the string quartets op. 130 including the later final movement and the Great Fugue op. 133 with the phenomenal Auryn Quartet on TACET 38 It's as if the subject retreated from his music, and, leaving the apparition to it's own devices, then really made the apparition speak... - One really could not present this late work in a more up-to-date way and yet more entranced, removed from all subjective whispered prompts.

With their expressive timbre and the technical excellence of the recording, the Auryn Quartet need not fear the competition, even though there is already a multitude of recordings in existence. Hartmut Leck, Klassik-heute There is no shortage of great and famous Beethoven Cycles, but there are no performances such as these. For me, this is now the set to beat. (Laurence Vittes)
