Luisa Sello - Biedermeier - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This album of works for flute and piano presents a sequence of 19th-century variations exploring the virtuosic, lyric and popular impulses of the genre. Ignaz Moscheles' Variations concertantes is a graceful work by one of the greatest piano virtuosos of his time in which both instruments are given equal importance. Richard Strauss's Introduktion, Thema und Variationen - composed when he was 15 years old - is an example of the young composer's precocity. Beethoven's contribution was aimed at the British amateur market with it's selection of popular songs, while Theobald Böhm's arrangements of Schubert Lieder from Winterreise and Schwanengesang reveal some of the composer's most beautiful and expressive melodies. Album Tracks 1. Variations Concertantes Op. 21 2. Sechs Variierte Themen Op. 105 (1817-18) 3. Introduktion, Thema Und Variationen (1879) 4. Sechs Lieder

The solo project of Seven Sisters' Kyle McNeill, Phantom Spell recreates the wonderment and awe of 1970s prog rock on it's breathtaking debut, Immortal's Requiem. Album Tracks 1. Immortal's Requiem 2. Dawn of Mind 3. Seven Sided Mirror 4. Up the Tower 5. Black Spire Course 6. Blood Becomes Sand 7. Moonchild 8. Keep on Running (Alternate Version)

These four central-European composers share a history of persecution and emigration but survived the worst excesses of the time. Their works for flute and piano reflect very different aesthetic positions. Schoenberg's uncompromising Sonata for Flute and Piano is an arrangement of his Wind Quintet, Op. 26 of 1923-24 made a few years later by the Austrian composer Felix Greissle. The Suite by Ernst Krenek is delightfully neo-Classical, whilst the Czech Emil Burian crafted an eloquent, light-hearted work, heard here in it's first recording. Paul Dessau's Guernica was written for piano in 1937 and memorialises the tragedy of that bombed city. Album Tracks 1. Suite for Flute and Piano, Op. 147 [06 21] 2. Ztracené Serenády [04 52] 3. Guernica [04 32] 4. I. Schwungvoll [11 44] 5. II. Anmutig Und Heiter Scherzando [11 02] 6. III. Etwas Langsam [09 58] 7. IV. Rondo [12 03]
