About this product
Over nearly two decades, composer / multi-instrumentalist M. Geddes Gengras has released an enormous catalog of wide-ranging, synth-focused music in solo and collaborative settings. He has participated in influential experimental groups like Sun Araw, Pocahaunted, Robedoor, and Akron/Family. Along with Sun Araw's Cameron Stallones and a host of Jamaican singers and artists, Gengras blurs the boundaries of dub and electronic music under the banner of Duppy Gun Productions. His solo works have appeared on labels including Room40, Leaving Records, Holy Mountain, and Umor Rex. After many years living in Los Angeles, Gengras now calls upstate New York home.M. Geddes Gengras returns to Hausu Mountain with Guest List, his fourth entry in the tag's catalog since 2019 and the first to be issued on vinyl. His albums for HausMo have ranged from the topographical ambient synth networks of I Am The Last of That Green and Warm-Hued World (HAUSMO88, 2019), to the dense technoid beat experiments of Time Makes Nothing Happen (HAUSMO109, 2020), to the rich post-rock-adjacent harmonic architectures of Expressed, I Noticed Silence (HAUSMO127, 2022). On Guest List, Gengras composes the most ambitious song cycle that he has ever captured in the context of one album, weaving his own synths and electronics into a dense tapestry of contrasting genres and ideas all animated by the presence of an enormous cast of collaborators. In Gengras's hands, the infinite-limbed drum performances of Greg Fox, the ecstatic guitar explorations of Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), the soaring vocalizations of Christina Carter (Charalambides), and the contributions of many more artists become individual brushstrokes to paint across the canvases of his dense mixes. Channeling sonic details from his wide circle of friends, Gengras broadens his range of expression and composes the most communal and ultimatel

While many of us have struggled to salvage a sense of purpose from a year's worth of isolation, veteran New York rocker Willie Nile has tapped into his own lockdown experience as a source of inspiration for the set of haunting new songs that comprise his emotion-charged new , The Day the Earth Stood Still. Although the veteran singer-songwriter borrowed it's title from the beloved 1951 science-fiction movie classic, the album was actually inspired by the sight of Nile's beloved hometown temporarily turned into a desolate ghost town. InchIt came from seeing the deserted streets of downtown Manhattan, with all the shops and stores boarded up and all these beautiful buildings looking down on everything,Inch Nile recalls, InchBut one Friday night last June, crossing Varick Street, I realized that there wasn't a car in sight, and that I could have laid down in the middle of the street without anyone noticing. The title The Day the Earth Stood Still hit me, and I carried it around in my head for awhile, and eventually it sparked this set of songs.Inch The title became the jumping-off point for one of the most powerful and personal albums of Nile's long and prolific career. Indeed, The Day the Earth Stood Still - his 14th studio effort - features 11 new original compositions that exemplify the artist's trademark mix of romance, idealism and humor, channeling a true believer's passionate affirmation of life, love and rock 'n' roll. Such new Nile originals as InchSanctuary,Inch InchExpect ChangeInch and InchWay of the HeartInch underline Nile's abiding passions, while the more out-there InchOff My MedicationInch and InchWhere There's a Willie There's a WayInch (co-written by fellow musical veteran Michael Des Barres) display his self-effacing sense of humor. Nile's hard-wired social conscience drives the heartfelt InchBlood on Your Hands,Inch recorded as a duet with Nile's We
