Madder Mortem - Marrow [VINYL LP] Colored Vinyl, Gatefold LP Jacket, Green date 09/21/2018

Reaching the end of a strenuous journey beset by turmoil and loss, Madder Mortem is finally ready with their 8th studio album InchOld Eyes, New HeartInch. Emerging five years after it's predecessor InchMarrowInch, the time in which InchOld Eyes, New HeartInch was made has been a troubled one for the Madders - and in the winter of 2023, Agnete and BP's dad Jakob passed away. Having always been a huge supporter of the band, Jakob's backing was essential in launching the band's recording career almost 30 years ago. Being an artist himself, Jakob had prepared two paintings especially for the album and with the adaptation and additional design by long-term Madder collaborator Costin Chioreanu, the cover artwork for InchOld Eyes, New HeartInch was completed. Even though Jakob didn't live to see the finished album, he would have been immensely proud to see his art on the cover, and the album is dedicated to his memory.Lyrically and musically, the album deals with hope, disappointment, and the ambivalence between them. It is music from old hearts and deep roots, with new eyes open to the unlimited possibilities of 12 notes, but always with the desire to write a good, honest song. Recorded and produced by guitarist BP M. Kirkevaag, it shows one of Norway's most interesting bands embracing a multitude of directions spanning from post-metal heaviness to soft Americana grooves and everything in between. Fronted by one of the genre's greatest and most unique voices, it is an album full of surprises, but at all times unmistakably Madder.- For fans of Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Solefald, Meshuggah- Confirmed for Inferno Festival 2024.1. Of JD Allen, Giovanni Russonello in The New York Times said, InchMr. Allen has become one of today's most exciting tenor saxophonists not by trying to spotlight his own virtuosity... but by defining a new way of playing in a group.Inch Allen's current , InchToys / Die Dreaming,Inch is his 14th as a leader and builds on his already rich recorded legacy. His compositions exhibit his philosophy of providing short melodies as the basis of both solo and group improvisation; InchGet in and get out,Inch as Allen likes to say. This gives his music a remarkable ever-transforming feel, as if the improvisation was actually part of the composition itself. To bring his music to life, Allen requires players of the utmost talent and creativity and he has certainly found them in bassist, Ian Kenselaar and drummer, Nic Cacioppo. InchI found the bad boys of this generation, as far as I'm concerned,Inch says Allen, Inchguys who are not afraid to dip their toe in the avant-garde a little bit, and then turn around and play the tradition.Inch But tradition to Allen is a development, an unending arc of creativity which begins at the dawn of jazz and to which he is the latest contributor to the music's evolution. Album Tracks 1. You're My Thrill 2. The G Thing 3. Die Dreaming 4. Red tag 5. Toys 6. Should Care 7. Elegua (The Trickster)

Mortem was originally known as the Norwegian cult band which preceded Arcturus. Formed by Marius Vold & Steinar Sverd Johnsen in 1989, Mortem was one of the first black metal bands to crawl out of the woodwork in Norway, releasing the highly coveted & brutal 'Slow Death' demo, with Euronymous & Dead of Mayhem acting as producer & cover artist respectively (whilst also featuring Hellhammer on session drums). After the of 'Slow Death', the band was laid to rest, with members going on to form & feature in acclaimed titans such as Arcturus & Thorns, both of which would become mainstays in the black metal scene & beyond. It wasn't until 2019, when Mortem's studio debut 'Ravnsvart' was released, & the magic of old undoubtedly returned with that same spirit & brutality of the original incarnation, whilst injecting new elements to form an opus of ferocious yet atmospheric horror. This was followed soon after by the fully re-recorded & re-worked 'Slow Death' tracks. And now Mortem returns with new ode to the dark, 'Mørketid'. The album presents an expansion & marked progression over the debut, with brooding mid-paced monumental riffs interspersed with periods of hyperspeed black metal. The album presents eight tracks of savage yet eerie & also often epic Black Metal of the highest order, adorned with the indomitable keyboard textures of Sverd, along with Hellhammer's unmistakable percussive prowess, & the returning vicious snarls of vocalist Marius Vold. 'Mørketid' was recorded at Toproom Studio in Norway, by Børge Finnstad & Kevin Kleiven. This edition of 'Mørketid' is presented on limited Oxblood coloured vinyl. Album Tracks 1. Morketid (06 04) 2.
