Enter Maltuka from Bergen, a new rising force within the genre set to go places with their four-track debut EP InchBlack RiteInch. Guitarist/singer Viljar Brunvoll and drummer Mats first collaborated in 2016/17, recording two EPs and playing several shows as members of Psykopath. When that band dissolved, the two continued working together on demos, which eventually gave birth to Maltuka. InchAside from our own desire to play thrash metal, Inch says Viljar, Inchwe believe the Norwegian scene has room for more variation. We also like to think we bring something fresh to the table-our own sound and expression-while still paying homage to the classic elements of the genre.Inch With influences ranging from usual suspects such as Metallica or Slayer across Nuclear Assault to Teutonic legends Sodom as well as Maltuka's corpse-painted countrymen Immortal, the members indeed manage to give the tried and tested thrash formula an individual twist. Lyrically, InchBlack RiteInch explores spiritual and occult themes, adding depth and atmosphere to the music. Although a track like 'Xolotl' draws from Aztec folklore, Viljar notes InchWe're not a band with a clear-cut message. The lyrics are meant to complement the music.Inch The EP's cover art, which is based on a painting by Kim Diaz Holm (Sólstafir, Vreid), visually represents the dark themes of the songs. And while they serve as an introduction to Maltuka's sound, the group has ambitious plans for their future. Rian Treanor will his anticipated debut album 'ATAXIA' on Planet Mu this March. The striking full-length follows singles for The Death Of Rave and Warp's Arcola imprint as well as DJ support from the likes of Björk, Beatrice Dillon, Errorsmith and Mumdance. The title 'ATAXIA' means 'the loss of full control of bodily movements' and relates to the album which is Inchintended to make people's bodies move in unpredictable ways.Inch He explains that components of the tracks were made by generating a series of irregular events and structuring them, or by destabilising a pattern that is constant. The roots of Rian's playful sound are directly linked to his love of the music he grew up with. Coming from Sheffield, you can hear elements of industrial, synth-pop, bleep, extreme computer music and speed garage at play. Eco-Splatter Vinyl. Maxïmo Park's eighth studio album, Stream Of Life, saw the band link up once again with Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective), Grammy-winning producer of 2021's near-chart-topping, pandemic-era tour de force Nature Always Wins, and as a result it marks the first time they have all been together in a studio to make an album since 2016. Their previous accolades consist of their first two albums going gold in the UK and a nomination for the Mercury Prize. Stream Of Life finds the band in perhaps their most reflective state. Lead singer Paul Smith, this most lit-pop of lyric writers, took the album title from a short story by Ukrainian-born Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector, inspired by both it's stream of consciousness style and the way it prompts reflection on the inner mechanisms of people's minds. It begs the question of why they do the things that they do, even when they can seem counterintuitive to the outsider. There's an inner flow to every individual - a stream of life.
