Maria Luisa Baldassari - Dulces Exuviae - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A compilation featuring 6 American composers of orchestral works all united by an expansive and sublime musical vision. With programmatic influences ranging from Jungian philosophy, musings on ancient Korean art, and descriptions of contrasting mountain vistas, each piece asks US to not only reflect on our collective past but on our communal future as well.

A musician and teacher, Francesco Durante was so known at his time that his name was given to a compositional school (that of the InchdurantistiInch). He composed mostly vocal music, especially sacred; his keyboard works make up a limited part of his production where virtuosity is extremely common; elements like very rapid scales, arpeggios or the crossing of the hands are also widely found in other contemporaries from Naples, but his writing preserves characteristic features which are absolutely personal. On this , Maria Luisa Baldassari performs these virtuosic works with emotion and aplomb.
