Mariani / Maria Gabriella Mariani - Riflessi - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The collection Florilegium Portense by Erhard Bodenschatz (c. 1576-1636), first published in 1603, contained 365 motets by 58 composers. It was something like a standard work of the cantors in the Thuringian-Saxon area, which is also proven to have been used by Johann Sebastian Bach. Chorwerk Ruhr let's us discover the music here that was so important to Bach that he even reordered the Florilegium. CHORWERK RUHR is one of the most important chamber choirs in Germany. The vocal ensemble was founded in 1999 by the Ruhr Area Municipal Association, the City of Essen and the State Ministry for Labor, Social Affairs, Urban Development, Culture and Sport and has developed into a solid pillar of vocal art in German-speaking countries. The extraordinary quality of the choir is to meet the special requirements of soloists as well as to achieve a perfect fusion of the ensemble in the choral sound.

The Czech composer Antonín Dvorák was gaining international fame during the latter part of the 19th century for a string of highly successful and popular works across many genres. His Cello Concerto was premiered in London in 1896 - it's symphonic character and wonderful melodic invention made the concerto one of his most beloved and frequently performed works. The Rondo, Op. 94 owes it's Slavic nature to the popular melody on which it is based, while the enchanting Silent Woods and soulful Laßt mich allein! Are both arrangements from previous works. The pieces on this album are performed by the award-winning cellist Enrico Dindo - praised by Rostropovich for an extraordinary sound that 'flows as a splendid Italian voice'.

Occupying prominent positions in ensembles such as the Gewandhausorchester and the Berlin Philharmonic doesn't necessarily guarantee the sensitivity, understanding and desire to find one's own interpretation that this ensemble shows US on their debut Genuine CD, Phantasy. They've won awards such as ARD, Deustcher Musikwettbewerb and Concourt de Geneve.
