In the autumn of 1912 Jean Sibelius was commissioned to compose music for Poul Knudsen's surreal pantomime, Scaramouche, an experience that Sibelius soon regretted taking due to reservations about the production. Composer and guitarist Van Steifel's InchSpiritsInch is his unique take on the studio-instrumental albums of layered guitar by legends like Les Paul, Chet Atkins, and Glen Campbell, filtered through his own introspective and personally spiritual way. Those albums were often a series of vignettes, each tune suggesting a particular location, mood, or flavor. This album turns that form into something akin to journal entries that hint at secrets, idiosyncrasies, and personal rituals. Van Stiefel has collaborated with many leading guitarists including Sergio Sorrentino, Benjamin Verdery, Eliot Fisk, Daniel Lippel, Bryce Dessner, Steve Mackey, and the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet. InchBeyond space and time, deceiving in it's simplicityInch (BigThink) his music for guitar has synthesized classical forms and techniques with electric guitar, digital, and interactive technologies.
![Evgeni Svetlanov - Balakirev Symphony 2 / in Bohemia / Etc - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/35f8bacb-34a2-41d5-afcc-d315c97c4471.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
[Symphony 2] Inchan attractive piece- I am inclined to think the Svetlanov account is finer (than) Rozhdestvensky... Svetlanov plays with great élan, driving the Cossack scherzo on, and drawing almost risky sweetness from the orchestra in the Andante.... The USSR orchestra has much to recommend it their strings certainly have greater sonority and weight though the brass and wind are not always to Western tastes.. some of the material of the scherzo was actually intended for the First Symphony. Yet the ideas are very engaging... [Overture] InchIn some ways the most striking is the Overture... beautifully orchestrated, with a lucidity which owes much to Glinka and even outdoes him. It should be better known to usInch (Gramophone) Album Tracks 1. Symphony No.2 in D minor; I. Allegro Ma Non Troppo 2. II. Scherzo Alla Cosacca. Allegro Non Troppo Ma Con Fuoco Ed Energico 3. III. Romanza. Adante 4. IV. Finale. Tempo Di Polacca 5. In Bohemia, Symphonic Poem 6. Overture on Three Russian Songs 7. Suite in D minor of Four Pieces By F. Chopin;Preambule (Etude) 8. Mazurka 9. Intermezzo (Nocturne) 10. Finale (Scherzo)
