Mark Lowry - Mary Did You Know - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

We suggest that few bands from an ostensibly Inchindie rockInch background should Christmas music, if not out of respect for the holiday or material then at least out of a sense of self-esteem. Low, however, were made for this. Their attention to musical detail combined with the heavenly vocal harmonies of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker are perfectly attuned to both traditional carols like 'Silent Night' and more contemporary tunes such as 'Blue Christmas'. Now this is a recording you can pull out to pre-empt another dose of Bing Crosby or Englebert Humperdink. Christmas contains a selection of seasonal songs, including four originals by the band, mostly recorded at Low's 20º Below studio in Duluth, MN. 'If You Were Born Today' and 'Blue Christmas' were released as a 7 inch single in 1997 on the English Wurlitzer Jukebox tag, while 'Taking Down the Tree' is taken from a 1998 compilation of live recordings issue by the Dutch VPRO radio station.

Jeb Loy Nichols returns to Timmion Records with InchStep InInch b/w InchComing Home LoveInch, a gently captivating 7Inch that pairs his dusty storytelling with the deep soul finesse of Timmion house band Cold Diamond & Mink. Draped in southern soul flavors and soft-spoken wisdom, these two tracks are a testament to Jeb's lifelong journey through the roots of American music - and his rare ability to make something instantly familiar feel fresh. On the A-side, InchStep InInch rolls forward on a mellow backbeat and sun-drenched electric piano, painting a quietly joyful portrait of reunion. It's a celebration of reconnecting - the warmth of being greeted, of returning to the rhythm of love, told with grace. On the flip, InchComing Home LoveInch takes things slower, drifting into classic soul ballad territory with an organ, soft horns and subtle guitar figures guiding the melody. It's a masterclass in restraint - every phrase hanging gently in the air, every detail adding to the emotional weight. Both tracks are pure, rootsy soul, captured live to tape in Timmion's analog sanctuary and delivered with the confidence of a team that knows exactly where the groove lives. And while these sides stand strong on their own, they also offer a first glimpse into Jeb's second full-length album with Cold Diamond & Mink - due out later this year.
