About this product

Tatjana Masurenko writes InchThe idea for the InchWhite NightsInch album series came about many years ago in connection with my performances with Roglit Ishay... The sub-title for the recording is InchViola music from St. PetersburgInch. I grew up in that wonderful city; I studied there and my family lives there. As a musician who is always on the lookout for interesting new discoveries, I wanted to record these works for viola. You will find some familiar pieces in my selection, works that have long been in the standard repertoire for violists the world over, alongside new, unexpected arrangements. I set great store by expanding the viola repertoire, which is why I often play my own arrangements of well known works, especially ones that appeal to me personally. The three albums in the InchWhite NightsInch series are very different from one another; that is because even if we have remained true to ourselves, we have of course, over time, developed further. Unlike in the first two recordings of this series, in the latest one I am no longer playing on my old viola by Testore (Milan, 1756), but on a new instrument by the violin-maker Jurgen Manthey (Leipzig, 2020), whom I have known for 25 years and whose work I rate very highly. My playing technique has changed recently. Nowadays I play repertoire of the nineteenth century with more emphasis on the historical accent. For this reason, on this recording I am using gut strings and a bow made by the most famous nineteenth-century bow-maker, Nikolai Kittel from St. Petersburg (1856). The grand piano we used on this recording is also a historic instrument a Bluthner of 1905 from Leipzig. Looking back over this music from St. Petersburg, I see it as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, of artistic freedom and love...Inch

Tatjana Masurenko - White Nights 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

It is the music of the 20th century that has helped US to understand the dark energy of the viola in new ways; in particular the final decades of the Soviet Union produced works of moving expressiveness. The violist Tatjana Masurenko is rooted in the St Petersburg string tradition, which derives from the violinist Leopold von Auer, who above all strove to restore awareness of the profundity of scores and their contexts.

Punch Brothers - The Unsung Adventures Of Punch Brothers - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, the seventh album from the Grammy-winning band-and it's first comprising all instrumental tunes as well as it's first with fiddle player Brittany Haas, who joined the quintet in 2023-is due July 24, 2026, on Nonesuch Records. The album features eight new original compositions by Punch Brothers as well as three traditional songs they arranged. The album's title is more than a play on words without lyrics to guide the listener, these are stories, impressions, and emotions communicated entirely with strings through melody, harmony, rhythm, and a literary sense of musical structure. For a band known for pushing acoustic music into unexpected places, going fully instrumental may be the most adventurous move they have made yet. The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers is produced by the band and engineered by Joseph Lorge, who most recently received a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album/Non-Classical for his work on Pino Palladino and Blake Mills' That Wasn't a Dream.
