Matre / Ensemble Ernts - But - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Jazz vocalist Giacomo Gates is blessed with a smooth and supremely expressive baritone voice and an all-inclusive musicality which encompasses a hipster-like coolness, a smattering of vocalese, an Eckstine-like seductiveness, the story telling ability of a griot, a firm footing in the blues and a sense of swing which is second-to-none. His performances can be quiet and full of insight (or innuendo) or be ebullient and joyful. Whatever style Gates may offer - be it sensitive, sensuous or syncopated - he infuses the music with an understated humor, wry cultural and social implications and an impish delight in surprising his listeners. You is a perfect example of Gates at his best with the vocalist putting together a program with a unique and decidedly altruistic leitmotiv. As Gates himself says, InchThe context of many songs written and recorded, are composed by people with 'I' problems... but not these songs. All of these songs are about you.Inch Here are 18 songs everybody knows and loves, arranged with creativity and wit and featuring Gates' gregarious delivery so that there can be no mistake, Inchit's all about you!Inch

'You have understood nothing of my simplicity', wrote Paul Verlaine in Child Wife. And that is precisely what Julien Joubert's music seems to whisper to us with each note. The composer and pianist works regularly with the Maîtrise de Radio France, which has premiered many of his works. Here he has set two cycles by the great nineteenth-century poet to music for this recording (Ariettes oubliées and Aquarelles, for mixed choir). An ambitious program, yet accessible to everyone, in all simplicity. Julien Joubert is not the kind of composer people imagine them to be he is impossible to classify, truly impossible. From musicals to opera to symphonic music, chamber music, ballet, theater, or film music, Julien Joubert continues to explore all forms of composition. Not forgetting his operas for children's or youth choirs (more than eighty), several of which have been premiered and recorded by the Maitrise de Radio France. A cellist and pianist, sometimes a singer, Julien Joubert is passionate about all sorts of music from the most complex sounding to light music.
