Clear vinyl. 180g heavy weight vinyl. Over the past 14 years, Matthew Tavares (aka Matty) has gone from being the founding member and keyboardist of the acclaimed jazz group BADBADNOTGOOD, to an in demand producer working with some of the biggest names in music, to a song-writer and artist in his own right, whose sensitive and raw output combined with an aversion to following the norms of the music industry has led to a dedicated cult fan base. Born in Canada in 1990, Tavares grew up in the golden era of blogs, forums and eclectic musical communities that defined the late 2000s. This combination of the internet and an isolated suburban upbringing laid the groundwork for Tavares' genre-bending artistry, an artistry that has seemingly touched the 4 corners of the musical globe and resulted in two Grammy Awards and five nominations. As a member of BADBADNOTGOOD he released 5 studio albums, collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Ghostface Killah, MF DOOM, Tyler the Creator, Kali Uchis, co-wrote the viral hit InchTime Moves SlowInch, played in Frank Ocean's debut Coachella set and soundtracked Virgil Alboh's landmark S/S 2019 runway show for Louis Vuiton. As a producer and songwriter he has penned songs for Post Malone, Rosalia, Travis Scott, Kodak Black, Justin Beiber, Camilla Cabello, Jack Harlow and countless others. As a solo artist under the name Matty, Tavares' releases are more akin to diary entries, both in the frequency of his output and his freedom to shift musical styles depending on his mood. Dejavu is the debut solo album from Matthew Tavares, aka Matty. Originally released in 2018 as a digital only , it now sees the physical it rightly deserves. Produced by his good friend, the acclaimed producer / songwriter Frank Dukes, ' Déjàvu' emerged during a period of rest for Matthew after heavy touring schedules with his former band BADBADNOTGOOD.As with many of the most fertile creative minds, continual reinvention leads to exploration of new sounds and styles. ' Déjàvu' sees a departure from the jazz of BADBADNOTGOOD and a move into a more song-based storybook, with Matthew stepping up to the plate as lead-vocalist. As Matthew explains InchI've always worked on my own stuff outside of BADBAD, and I've made music that sounds like this since I was 16. But when BADBAD started taking off, it was like InchOk, I can't really make rock-y songwriter music anymoreInch. The inspiration for the album came after revisiting old favourites and classics such as The Zombies, The Beatles, shoegaze, and Krautrock records. It was also made in a difficult and reflective period in Matthew's life, with each song being a vignette to an individual. InchI wrote each song about someone specifically, but then I realised very quickly afterwards that every song is about myselfInch. Even though on the surface the record could be loosely categorized in the rock / indie camp, it's dreamy psych-pop vibe evokes much richer musical inspirations. Elements of jazz, AOR, and the compositions of 'golden-era' Brazilian arrangers such as Arthur Verocai enrich the songs. For the Mr Bongo of 'Déjàvu' we have included the beautiful bonus track 'Verocai Pt. II' which was a product of the same recording sessions and rounds off the record. Since the debut album InchStay a whileInch in 2020, Gothenburg based Simon Westman Trio have had success on streaming platforms with 3 million streams. Now, they are back with a new album - Moving Forward. Pianist Simon Westman has composed most of the songs, and master of sound engineering, Åke Linton, has been involved helping the trio get a great sound at Swedish recording studio InchSvenska GrammofonstudionInch in Gothenburg. With this album, the three musicians - all of them strong voices on the Swedish jazz scene - have found their sound and their interaction even more. Strong melodies has become something of a hallmark for the trio, as for the mix of sensitivity and great energy. It's a very dynamic and playful trio, the new album will be released on the 3 rd of March 2023 on Prophone Records. The trio is Simon Westman - Piano, Magnus Bergström - Double Bass, Magnus Gran - Drums.
