A: Hi Pomona, this might sound a little crazy, but you actually have to hold the button down a solid 3 seconds (one- one thousand, two- one thousand, 3- one thousand) for the lock to disengage. We hope this helps.

Our first Maytag refrigerator
We really like the frig. It can be a tad bit noisy but it everything else is works great. The freezer pull out is just what we want.
