About this product
He was born Inchwith a little silver spoon in his mouthInch, Ralph Vaughan Williams jokingly said of himself, which made him independent of time-consuming teaching and instrumentalist activities that otherwise rob a composer of a lot of energy. Thus, he immediately gave up the post of organist at the London parish of St. Barnabas after his studies, when he was sure of his creative vocation. When Vaughan Williams died in 1958 at the age of 85, he was acknowledged as the most important figure between Edward Elgar and Benjamin Britten and was buried next to Henry Purcell in Westminster Abbey, the pantheon of the greats from England's past. Vaughan Williams, who also conducted the highly successful premiere at the Leeds Festival in 1910 arranged by Stanford, worked on the Sea Symphony for almost seven years. Originally conceived as a symphonic poem - temporarily titled The Ocean - it marks the turning point in his output from smaller-scale works to large-scale and large-scale choral and orchestral compositions. The Serenade to Music was written in 1938 for the Golden Jubilee Concert of Sir Henry Wood (1869 - 1944), a conductor of great merit to English musical life. To mark the 150th anniversary this year, the Solo Musica tag is now releasing an up-to-date recording with the MDR Symphony Orchestra and the MDR Radio Choir under the direction of principal conductor Dennis Russell Davies.

Carlo Donato Cossoni (1623-1700) was born into a family of musicians in the small town of Gravedona by Lake Como on November 10, 1623. By 1650 he was organist at San Fedele in Como, where he had previously been ordained priest. He published his op. 1 of two-part and three-part motets in Venice in 1665, and 13 further works followed up to 1679, all of sacred music. He bequeathed 54 sacred works to the Benedictine abbey of Einsiedeln (Appellato della Madonna de Valdo, InchOur Lady of the HermitsInch), and after his death in Gravedona they were added to the abbey library. Other Cossoni manuscripts have been preserved in Milan, Como and Bologna. The NOVANTIQUA Bern vocal ensemble was founded in 1987 by Bernhard Pfammatter to prepare sophisticated choral literature for concert performance by a small ensemble. The name NOVANTIQUA expresses the ensemble's commitment to the interpretation of early works alongside the performance of music from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Kesselberg Ensemble was founded in 2004 by Latvian musicians, all graduates of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The ensemble chose the name InchKesselbergInch, Latvian Katlakalns, to celebrate the district of Riga where Johann Gottfried Müthel (born 1728 in Mölln, died 1788 in Riga) spent his later years. J.S. Bach's last pupil, Müthel was Latvia's greatest composer of the 18th century.

As a servant to his craft, Heinz Rögner was influenced by the musical traditions of his hometown of Leipzig. GENUIN, together with MDR, is dedicating a 4-album box set to the great conductor, featuring concert recordings from the Gewandhaus from 1994 to 2001. Originally from a humble background, the musician worked predominantly in Berlin and Leipzig but was also exceptionally well known and popular in Japan. This album box provides us with superb recordings of Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Schubert and Anton Bruckner, as well as Reger's Mozart Variations and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The MDR Symphony Orchestra and the MDR Chamber Philharmonic perform at their best!
