Mega Bog - Gone Banana - VINYL LP

The music of Los Angeles based band Dot Hacker is architectural, built on a foundation of bold, manipulated tones and supported by rich eclectic textures and angular rhythm. The band's enigmatic sound comes from the collaboration of friends and founding members, Josh Klinghoffer, Clint Walsh, Eric Gardner and Jonathan Hischke. Before forming Dot Hacker in 2008, the four were already established musicians-Klinghoffer, the band's lead vocalist, also currently plays guitar in the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Mega Bog is the fluid musical moniker of songwriter Erin Elizabeth Birgy, who has spent the last ten years channeling, capturing, and releasing her unique bouquet of fragrant, sci-pop experiments with a handful of bicoastal collaborators. She is joined on her fifth and finest album (and first for PoB) by members of Big Thief, Hand Habits, and iji, who help her spin a manic web of emotions into beautiful, abstract future poems and thrilling genre perversions.

Pianist Paolo Giacometti presents a fascinating new recording of music by Maurice Ravel that compares the music's sound when played on modern and authentic instruments. Although trained on modern pianos, Giacometti has long been a proponent of period keyboards, having performed on romantic grand pianos by +ërard and Pleyel and older ones by Graf and Streicher. Giacometti's desire to share the interpretive revelations he gained from playing these pianos was the inspiration for this unique project, which features Ravel's Sonatine, Gaspard de la Nuit, Menuet antique and Le Tombeau de Couperin. The 'new' instrument used for the recording is a Steinway. 'New' is in inverted commas because the Steinway grand has hardly changed since the late nineteenth century. The authentic instrument on this CD is an +ërard - one of the most celebrated makers of the nineteenth century. Ravel frequently gave his recitals on a Steinway, while at home he used an Erard when composing.
