Meghan Patrick - Grace & Grit - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2018 . Vivian Leva's voice is the sound of living tradition. Raised by parents who paid visits to old-time legends like Tommy Jarrell and Doug Wallin, she grew up steeped in the Appalachian and country music of her Lexington, VA home. With her debut solo recording Time Is Everything, Leva earns a spot in the lineage of great neo-traditional songwriters like Gillian Welch and Sarah Jarosz. It's clear that Leva possesses a sense of melody and storytelling well beyond her years. She finds inspiration in classic storytellers like Kitty Wells and Texas Gladden, the harmony singing of the Stanley and Everly Brothers, and the pop sensibilities of Mandolin Orange; her originals effortlessly shift between archaic ballads, classic country and honky tonk, and contemporary Americana. Riley Calcagno (The Onlies) and other top-notch collaborators add to the album's tastefully minimal production, imbuing each story of love and heartbreak with a hearty emotional punch. Time Is Everything is a bold statement from this rising star. Album Tracks 1. Bottom of the Glass 2. Time Is Everything 3. Sturdy As the Land 4. No Forever 5. Wishes and Dreams 6. Cold Mountains 7. Ferruccio Busoni's most significant musical role models include Bach, Mozart, and Liszt. These three muses informed his mature compositional style, which melded Bachian counterpoint, Mozartian clarity, and Lisztian virtuosity alongside Busoni's penchant for experimentation. The music on Jiayan Sun's new album reveals the diverse ways Busoni responded to these muses, ranging from transcription and arrangement to original composition.
