About this product

When the multidisciplinary arts festival Europalia invited Melanie de Biasio to participate in it's 2021 festival on the theme of Trains & Tracks, the Belgian musician was inspired to return to her roots, to retrace the route of immigration from Italy to Belgium taken by her father's parents. With lightweight recording equipment and an old camera, she settled alone in the small mountain village of Lettomanoppello, in Abruzzo, Italy. This became the starting point Il Viaggio. From there Melanie journeyed in the Dolomites where her family originated from and where she spent summers as a child. This journey was not only introspective but also collaborative at it's heart. All English lyrics are the result of a continuing collaboration with Gil Helmick, poet and activist living in Maine. With Gil's poetry as a starting point, the two create an improvisation with words, and a synergy of images and meaning is born. On her return to Belgium, Melanie worked closely with Pascal Paulus, multi-instrumentalist who contributed to each of her past albums. With the raw recorded material from Italy, they created the musical foundation for each of the pieces on this album. On Il Viaggio, we again discover her chant's originality her unique phrasing; her voice of sensuality without excess; and above all, her ability to leave behind frenzy and noise, creating a world of abundant time and space. She offers a moment bathed in a fulfilling quietude - and invites us to join her.

Melanie - Stoneground Words - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Woodstock and Glastonbury Fayre icon Melanie had been working with Easy Action on the deluxe vinyl and CD re of one of the most legendary albums in her long catalogue prior to her very sad passing. In 1972, Melanie and her producer and husband Peter Schekeryk began work on what she intended to be her most ambitious album yet. Stoneground Words was to be a double album - the first such statement from any female rock artist. It would also be the first worldwide on Neighborhood Records, the tag she and Schekeryk established in 1971 - another first, as she entered territory into which only the Beatles, the Stones and the Moody Blues had previously stepped. Even more crucially, however, it was her personal response to the enormous success, earlier in the year, of the hit InchBrand New KeyInch - Inchthe bicycle song,Inch as so many people recall it. Stoneground Words returned to the drawing board. Ten songs were selected; the remainder were placed to one side; and the album was released to generally positive reviews which included Melody Maker's assertion that it was Inchthe most sophisticated she's made. The naiveté of [the past has] been replaced by deeper, more comprehensive methods of expression.Inch She is the first to admit that the new edition of Stoneground Words is not a true facsimile of the original. The paperwork for all three projects, after all, disappeared long ago, as did the tapes (Inchwho knows where?Inch) Stoneground Words will be released in March 2024 by Easy Action / Neighbourhood Records.

Melanie - Ballroom Streets - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Album has been out of print for over 30 years. Recorded live in front of a small private audience in a residential studio in Miami in 1978. This unique album includes brand new songs along with some classics such as 'Nickel Song', 'Ruby Tuesday', 'Brand New Key'. The latter was performed in the style that Melanie had originally envisioned it to be. The pinnacle of this album is arguably the stunning version of the single InchCycloneInch which segues into the classic InchCandles in the Rain Inch. Of this album Melanie defiantly said, InchI wasn't making this album for the music industry, I was making it for me - this is who I am, this is what I do, and if you don't like, too bad.Inch And the album sounds all the better for it, being as organic as you can get - a singer songwriter and an elite band of musicians doing what they do best... this album is one of the overlooked classics in the Melanie catalogue.
