Menahan Street Band - The Crossing [VINYL LP] date 11/13/2012

Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Grant Green's 1962 album Born To Be Blue featuring Ike Quebec is often thought of as the sister album to Quebec's classic Blue and Sentimental, which was recorded for Blue Note just three months prior and also showcased the deep chemistry between the soulful guitarist and tenor saxophonist. Quebec's deep, soul-drenched tenor sound matches beautifully with hard bop masters Green and pianist Sonny Clark, along with the tried-and-true rhythm section team of Sam Jones and Louis Hayes.

Vinyl LP pressing. Fresh off the of their newest LP 'The Crossing', a brooding instrumental masterpiece that is as raw as it is rich, the Menahan Street Band have been treating audiences to their rare live performances. With influences reaching beyond the funk/soul/afrobeat architecture of the members other projects into the more ethereal realms of Curtis Mayfield, Mulatu Astatke, and even Ennio Morricone. Though most known as the official studio band at Thomas Brenneck's world famous Dunham studio, MSB is also one of the finest live bands in the world.

Debut album! The Menahan Street Band is a collaboration of musicians from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, El Michels Affair, Antibalas and the Budos Band, brought together by musician/producer Thomas Brenneck (Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Budos Band, Amy Winehouse) to record hits in the bedroom of his Menahan St. Apartment in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
