Michael McNabb - Dreamsong-Love in the Asy - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This recording consists of three of my early compositions produced at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University. The first two of them, especially InchDreamsongInch, became very well-known and influential in the filed of electroacoustic music and have received many honors. In those early days of computer music my colleagues and I were pioneering the development and use of many of the techniques of digital synthesis, recording, and sound processing that are now commonplace. Due to the almost fanatical emphasis on sound quality that was then a part of the CCRMA atmosphere, these works continue to stand on a par with the best that current instruments can produce. I hope that you will experience some of the excitement and inspiration that I felt in bringing this unusual music to life. (Michael McNabb)

Fast-growing jazz star Evan Christopher brings back the sound of great jazz and swing a la Edmond Hall on this recorded in 1998. The clarinetist is joined by John Sheridan, Howard Elkins, Don Mopsick, Ed Torres, Jim Cullum and Sebastian Campesi. (Previously deleted 10/1/09. Original date 12/6/02)

Russell Kranes - Anchor Points - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Since meeting through the New York City jazz scene a decade ago, pianist Russell Kranes, bassist Sam Weber, guitarist Alex Levine, and drummer Jay Sawyer have performed together for thousands of hours across a multitude of musical contexts, developing chemistry and a deep collective musical identity. With their debut recording InchAnchor Points,Inch they deliver a mix of originals and standards in two iterations of the group - through a trio set of piano/bass/guitar, a nod to the trios of Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole, as well as the instrumentation that initially brought them together, and the quartet, where Jay Sawyer adds his jubilant swing. Besides capturing and celebrating years of musical camaraderie and connection, the quartet pays homage to the masters and build upon their profound tradition.
