About this product

In essence, the sound of the piano comes in two parts it's attack and it's decay. The striking of a hammer is followed by the resonance of a string or strings. (Much the same might be said about the vibraphone, as it happens.) This dual quality of sound comes to mind when listening to Moments by New York-based composer Michael Vincent Waller. Performed by pianist R. Andrew Lee and vibraphonist William Winant, Moments - his third album, following Trajectories (Recital, 2017) and The South Shore (XI, 2015) - draws on Western classical music tradition in it's most archetypal forms through it's use of modal melodies, triadic harmonies and metered rhythms. Yet the emotional heart of the music is not in attack, but resonance. The afterlife of sounds. Those elements that can't be grasped and placed into easy historical categories. Behind his surface attacks Waller finds hazy, edgeless zones that draw us downwards, into introspection - an Inchinward gaze.Inch Waller's music is often compared to that of Erik Satie, and there is certainly something Satie-like in it's concision, it's subtle asymmetries and it's lack of ornament. But where Satie's Gnossiennes, Nocturnes and Gymnopédies were blank canvases, deliberately signifying nothing, Waller's pieces are vessels to be filled. That is partly an effect of titles Waller's pieces on this disc are all 'moments' of autobiographical poignancy - memorials, birthdays, homecomings; friends, teachers, family members. We are clearly invited to invest certain emotional expectations into these sounds. Liner notes by Tim Rutherford-Johnson and InchBlueInch Gene Tyranny. Mastered by Denis Blackham for digital and compact disc. Mastered and cut for vinyl by Rashad Becker. Album Tracks 1. For Papa 2. Return from la - I 3. Return from la - II 4. Return from la - III 5. Michael Price - Entanglement - VINYL LP

LP version. Includes download code. No click tracks, no headphones, and no film. Just the spontaneity of performance and the sound of musicians hearing, connecting, and responding. Michael Price's first work as a composer was for contemporary dance choreographers, after which he worked as Michael Kamen's assistant on the score for Event Horizon (1997). Price has since been a part of many film score projects. He describes his 2013 string quartet EP A Stillness (ERATP 047EP) as a cathartic and inspiring experience... I saw that here were people with clear sight and great ears creating a musical family, which seemed far removed from the compromises of the commercial mainstream. And yet bringing beautiful, intelligent, forward looking music to a similarly thoughtful audience. Price follows that with Entanglement, his debut full-length album and the fulfillment of his long-held desire to explore new musical territories. It features Price on piano, with cello, soprano voice, string orchestra, modular synthesizer, tape effects, and electronics. The cello and soprano vocal parts were written specifically and directly for cellist Peter Gregson and vocalist Ashley Knight, whose expressive voice features on tracks Maitri and The Uncertainly Principle. The lyrics for both songs are Japanese poetry sung in English, dealing with age, loss, and the inevitable fading of beauty. Other elements include street sounds from Budapest captured and processed on Price's mobile phone, as well as chamber music recorded direct to tape with vintage microphones in single takes. The Attachment was partly recorded onto a 1940s magnetic disc recorder. Price describes the album's conceptual foundation Entanglement is a very personal expression of my obsessions music, love, physics, and the interconnectedness of things. There is structure and freedom, chaos and control, and the beauty of ancient in

Lull - Moments - VINYL LP

Double vinyl LP pressing. Isolationist, minimal, alienating Drone / Dark Ambient from Mick Harris (Scorn, Fret, ex-Napalm Death). Staggeringly beautiful, glacial sub-bass sounds, deep ambient and thunderous tones, with subtle shifts. Originally released as a 99-track continuous CD in 1998, now presented on vinyl for the first time, Moments is expanded to 100 cuts, with bonus material from the original recording sessions. InchTectonic rumblings and icy sound slivers move and swirl around each other, slipping into spaces between the molecules which make up your physical body and then break it apart in preparation for rearrangement. Moments of expansive emptiness and claustrophobic terror overlap one another and then overcome your mind as you journey through this bleak void of sound. At one moment warm and organic, the next, slowly slipping into a machine-like coldness to freeze and paralyze... Sound as a vehicle to bring you through that doorway towards dimensions previously unknown. Hypnotic and soothing with a lingering sense of dread throughoutInch (Carrion Kind).
