Customer Ratings & Reviews

Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8 The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2026 spring edition is an excellent machine that sets a mark for high performing PCs. The design, capability, and features of the Surface laptop make it a winner--the screen is gorgeous and well proportioned, the processing speed is high, the working memory is capable of running dynamic programs, and the overall feel of the machine is comfortable. The battery life is also very good--far better than most pcs I have used in the last six years. Admittedly, I have one problem with the Surface--I strongly dislike Windows 11, which is the standard operating system. That said, this is the case for any pc, and so, if one is going to get a pc, one accepts this. (But I reserve the right to complain about how aggravating Windows 11). The Surface is an excellent experience despite the aggravations I may have with this operating system. Functionality: This is a very high powered machine, and I haven't found anything I do to challenge it. It can power through tubby, inefficient photo editing programs and it can hold open dozens of tabs on different browsers without skipping a beat. I am not much of a game player, but a game I do play, which has some nice if not super fast graphics, looks and performs perfectly. I can play a video on an external monitor and edit photos on the laptop at the same time, using a program that chokes my other pc. I have no complaints about performance, though I realize these are not technical tests. Also, this pc has a touchscreen. I don't find that a very useful features in a laptop, to be honest, but it can be nice in some editing applications. It seems that Surface Laptops are no longer compatible with Windows Ink, so that kind of limits why I would ever use a touchscreen. I don't dislike it, I just don't think it's needed, and you end up with fingerprints on your gorgeous screen. On a practical level, it's awesome that the Surface has several ports--one USB A and two USB Cs, and a separate power connection. This makes everyday work much easier, and it's possible to use the computer without always needing extra hubs. To connect to HDMI still will require a dongle, but having three ports makes it possible to use a thumb drive, plug in a camera or a dongle, and still potentially have one free port. This does mean that MS has added a proprietary power cable that plugs into the right side of the laptop. It's magnetically attached, which is nice, but I hate proprietary connection and I was thrilled when my non-pc computer went to a USB C connection. I appreciate not losing a USB C port to a power cord, however, I dislike anything that will be hard to replace if I lose it. It's a sleek connection and it works easily, but the cord could be a little longer. Surface also makes some lofty claims about battery life. While I don't know that it lives up to the claim of 20 hours of video playback for the 13.8 inch model, it is an excellent battery and the best pc performance on battery that I've seen in ages. To put it mildly, my other pcs have had ABYSMAL battery while my non-pc has always had amazing battery, even over the course of several years. The Surface is testing very well. 4 hours of use, not just video playback, resulted in burning about 40% of the available battery. Operating for 1.5 hours with two screens, video playback, word processing, two browser windows with multiple tabs, external Bluetooth mouse and keyboard on, and photo editing software running, burned about 20% of the available battery. TO be clear, my other three-year old pc would have already died. The Surface comes with a bunch of new fancy features, many of which are "AI" powered. I am not really a fan of generative AI or agential AI, but I did look with some care at the privacy policies that are attached to the new features and the computer itself. While I'm still a little leery of anything that Microsoft or any of these large computing powers are pushing in regard to AI, there are some decent assurances in the privacy terms about the way they intend to use personal data. Several of the AI tools are "locally powered" and this makes them more attractive to me--I'm tired of having my personal thoughts and queries turned into data for llms and the like. I also don't like biometrics at all and refuse to use them, so I'm not going to review those capabilities. Microsoft Pluton protections sound good as well, but it's not something I've really "tested;" still, I like that Microsoft is trying to highlight some attention to security at least a little bit. The local AI does power some nice smart features with the camera, allowing for blurring and "cinematic" studio effects, and because these are locally controlled, the battery is not as taxed to take advantage. (Also the camera is a strong performer--far better than my other pc, which was an equivalent price three years ago. It does do better in well lit rooms, however.) There is also a nifty new search feature that uses the local AI to search using more natural language. This raises some questions again about how the machine is watching me, but Microsoft is careful to insist that none of that data ever leaves the local host. I tried the search and, for example, asked for a "photo of a dog," which indeed pulled up lots of my photos of dogs. It also pulled up a few photos of aurora borealis, so that's a bit confusing, but overall the search worked well, and I have to say, much better than windows search usually works. The exterior and interface experience is excellent. Though I don't always think the shell is the most important part of the user experience, the Surface has a very nice aluminum build and is solid. It's not heavy though it's not the tiniest laptop out there, and it does have some heft. It's so sleek it's a little slippery, but though it slid out of my hands and smacked the floor, due to me being a butter fingers, it survived undaunted and didn't skip a beat. The keyboard is pleasant and has a little bit of resistance in the chiclet keys. They are a good spacing, though I'm not totally used to them yet. The touchpad is a strong performer--it's tactile and has a good click, but I also don't have any issue with accidental swipes, though it's a good size. The bottom of the touchpad clearly allows for both right and left clicking. The touchpad has haptic feedback, but I have to admit I don't particularly notice this as different from my other computers. Since I like to use a separate mouse and keyboard often, this is less important to me, but the touchpad still is a good one, and there are certainly terrible ones out there. The screen is excellent, with 2304 x 1536 and a 120HZ refresh rate. Let me tell you, the 13.8 dimension and 3:2 aspect ratios is really nice. This is a little bigger than my previous pc, which has a 13.1 screen that is overly exaggerated in the horizontal dimension. By contrast, the 13.8 works really nicely to allow for windows that feel right--the screen resolution is still very high and the image is crisp, but my applications and internet window are not fighting with the dimensions, an issue I've had with the other pc. It works well for watching media, though it will present widescreen with letterboxing because it does not have the exaggerated widescreen aspect ratio. I do not use my laptop for my primary viewing of films or tv, so I would far rather have a screen that provides a workspace that is more aesthetically pleasing and functional over the film/tv experience. That said, the speakers are also very good and watching on the laptop is still a very pleasant experience. I did have some noticeable audio lag when watching streaming video and using Bluetooth earbuds, I will note. Connectivity is also very easy, and works the way it's supposed to. I had no problem connecting earbuds, switching back to the speakers, and then connecting to a wireless speaker, and going back to the onboard speakers. However, again, there is a noticeable lag in the audio from the speaker, and adjusting the viewing speed would be needed to use the external speaker enjoyably. However, seamlessly moving between these different choices was nice. Again, this is something I've had problems with using my other pc, even though it was also Windows 11. Connecting to the external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is also a snap, and the machine works easily connected to an external monitor. It mirrors and extends the display without a hitch, and there are less issues matching audio between the laptop and the external monitor than between the laptop and an external speaker. Comparing the large monitor to the laptop screen, however, I notice the superiority of the Surface's display (not too surprising, given that smaller displays always look better and the resolution of the Surface is so high.) To close, I think this is a great computer, and I'm enjoying using it and I think it will be a long term computer for me because the battery is great and the functionality is high. I still hate Windows 11 and onedrive with an absolute burning passion, but this is the best pc I've used in ten years.

The BEST laptop on the market, in my opinion. I've owned the Surface 1 and 2, but was then forced to take my 2 pretty much out of commission as per a new work policy that was implemented. We had to switch to using only work issued DINOSAURS by 'Zell' for the last four years, and only recently were given the choice to use our own devices again. I'd forgotten how much I loved working on a Surface! It's only been a few days, but the difference is noticeable immediately. Starting with just how gorgeous this Surface is. It looks so luxurious and high-end. The feel of it in your hands is like butter. Smooth and substantial, sturdy, and just well made. It's so light and compact, I don't need to carry it in a backpack. It fits nicely into my purse, which is a really nice change. I got the black to match my other devices. It starts up super fast, has such vivid color and the touch pad is just the right amount of sensitive. It's velvety to the touch and I don't have to darn near slam my fingers onto it to get a response! The speed of switching tasks and apps and screens is glaringly noticeable and so refreshing. Plays back video in high quality colors and contrast. The test for me was watching three episodes inna row of Seinfeld and when I watched again on my TV, I was like, it looked better on my laptop!? Lol! The battery literally lasts a full 8 hours of working before I need to plug it in. Still has battery life, so I could go another hour from when the battery saver kicks in. In my work, we use the full Microsoft suite as well as Monday.com. There's no better match than an actual Microsoft laptop to work within their products. Copilot is the only approved AI platform for us, and I just love it. So quick and intuitive and while I don't use AI to do work FOR me, so to speak, I do use it for quick research and let me tell you, the accuracy is by far the best I've used, between my phone, tablet and the Surface's different AI Assistants. I haven't noticed any glaring mistakes or misinformation as I have on other AI. I also frequently utilize AI to search within my files. Speaking of, the storage on this little beauty is enough to last a lifetime! I'm very happy to be back in the saddle with a surface. I would recommend to anyone over a Mac or any other model. This was a great upgrade to my working life!

Microsoft - Surface Laptop - 13.8" 2K Touchscreen - Snapdragon X2 Elite (12 Core 8th Generation) 2026 - 16GB - 1TB Storage Advertised as “Exceptionally powerful, ultrathin laptop — The new Surface Laptop, 13.8-inch (8th Edition) is not just faster—it’s more intuitive. Unlock your creativity and stay productive throughout the day with accelerated performance that powers a new AI era, enabling Copilot experiences deeply integrated with the Windows ecosystem.” Microsoft says the architecture allows AI features to run locally for improved privacy and responsiveness while still taking advantage of cloud resources when additional computing power is required. To see how its marketing lives up to the praise, I will compare it to last year's competitor model, which has a 7th Generation Snapdragon processor and similar specs. What's Included: Surface Laptop (standard laptop configuration) with Windows 11 Home OS- 13.8" 2K Touchscreen - Snapdragon X2 Elite 2026 ARM processor [ 4.03 GHz, 4032 Mhz, 12 Core(s), 12 Logical Processors] - 16GB RAM ( LPDDR5x RAM)- 1TB Storage (Gen 4 M.2 NVMe SSD) - Copilot+ PC, 39W Power Supply with Surface Connect, Quick Start Guide, Safety and warranty documents. 13.8" PixelSense touchscreen LCD display with screen resolution of 2304 x 1536 (60 or 120 hertz) and 600 nits brightness. The GPU is a Qualcomm Adreno X2-85 GPU (Gen 8). 1080p Full HD camera (no manual shutter for privacy). NPU ( Neural Processing Unit): Qualcomm Hexagon with 80 TOPS. WiFi 7. Laptop-style keyboard without a number pad. Hepatic touchpad. With a claimed “up to 20 hours of local video playback,” you have all-day battery life, with fast charging to get it back up when needed. The Surface Laptop with a 13.8” touchscreen has a sleek, smooth, clean design and comes in at just 0.65 inches thick at its widest point and weighs exactly 3 pounds due to its solid aluminum body and rounded edges. Though I would have liked some dedicated cooling fins, even though this is a Qualcomm ARM processor, which is known for its ability to sip electricity and run cooler than most under load for long periods of time, it can generate some heat. I choose to run a laptop cooler if I am going to do a lot of work, especially with videos and other heavy-duty tasks, and AI is known for being a heavy-duty task. It should be noted that ARM-based machines use a special version of Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system (in this case, Windows 11 Home Edition for ARM processors). You may encounter some incompatibility, as not all software has a version that runs on ARM machines – the biggest offenders are various games and some 3rd party utilities. Most apps function well on the ARM chip, either natively or through the Prism emulation layer, which operates seamlessly in the background. This setup enables standard Windows x64 programs, designed for Intel or AMD processors, to run smoothly. However, emulated apps like Evernote may experience some slowdown. While many emulated games work at reduced graphics settings, certain multiplayer titles that rely on anti-cheat software might not be compatible. Recent updates have enhanced support, allowing popular games like Fortnite to run. The Surface Laptop is ideal for students, commuters, and everyday tasks such as browsing, email, and streaming. It's also a great option for professionals, multitaskers, and remote workers, especially for creative work like photo editing, design, and light to moderate video projects. The latest 13.8-inch Surface Laptop features X2 Elite processors with integrated AI acceleration, making it well-equipped for modern creative workflows such as photo editing, graphic design, and content creation. Ports: 3.5 mm audio jack. One USB-A 3.2port and two USB-C 4.0 ports, which also support DisplayPort 1.4. Microsoft's proprietary Surface Connect port on the right side; unfortunately, they didn’t include another USB-C port on the right side. The touchscreen is a plus and is very responsive. The display is bright and high quality with HDR and Dolby Vision support but the gloss coating is prone to glare from overhead lights in an office setting. The speakers are good for a laptop. They lack bass but avoid being tinny and are clear even at high volumes. It would have been nice to have a hinge that allows the unit to go flat or put it in tablet mode but I am sure the idea was to save weight and size. The illuminated keyboard is very comfortable to type on but it does not have a separate keypad. A nice haptic-feedback touchpad device below the keyboard is very responsive and should last much longer than the typical pressure-switch style. I found it surprising that you can feel little taps on your finger through the trackpad for interactions such as tapping the keyboard, mousing over the close (X) button at the top of Windows, or snapping a window to the side of the screen, which helps bring the on-screen elements alive. There are multiple ways to interact with the touchpad using multiple fingers and gestures. Going to the touchpad settings shows you all the interactions. It also allows for some customization and for turning features on and off. For security, the laptop uses the front-facing HD camera for Windows Hello Biometric facial recognition access; unfortunately, there is no fingerprint reader. There is a white LED for the Main camera activity indicator (always on when the camera is active) and Infrared (IR) LEDs in the bezel, which enable facial recognition in surprisingly low ambient lighting. There is no privacy shutter, with the idea that the camera can detect when you are away from the keyboard and activate the lock screen. The laptop's Snapdragon X2 Elite CPU has the Microsoft Pluton security processor integrated into it, providing hardware level security for sensitive data and system integrity. Microsoft Pluton is a secure crypto processor built directly into the CPU package (not as a separate chip on the motherboard) for Windows 11 devices. It’s designed to act as a hardware based root of trust, protecting: • Credentials (passwords, account logins) • Encryption keys (for BitLocker, secure boot) • Device identity (unique identifiers for secure attestation) • Personal data (financial info, contacts, etc.). To see how its marketing lives up to the praise, I will compare it to last year's competitor model, which has a 7th Generation Snapdragon processor and similar specs: • The new Surface is much snappier and can handle multiple windows and tabs better than the older machine. But I would have preferred 32 GB of RAM instead of 16 GB, as I am asking the new machine to do more • Runs just as cool when not under load (during intense sessions I still use a laptop cooler on both) • Sips electrons better, extending battery life while also adding a faster recharge • Improved haptic-feedback touchpad • AI integration has improved and is faster, with improved Copilot integration, which makes it more productive. One of the cool examples of this is ‘Click to Do ’, which uses AI to analyze what is on screen to allow direct interaction with text, images, and other information My conclusion is that the new Surface Laptop, 13.8-inch (8th Edition) with the Snapdragon X2 Elite CPU and Qualcomm Adreno X2-85 GPU (Gen 8) is a nice laptop for students, commuters, and everyday tasks such as browsing, email, and streaming. As well as professionals, multitaskers, and remote workers, especially for creative work like photo editing, design, and light to moderate video projects. It is well-equipped for modern creative workflows such as photo editing, graphic design, and content creation.

I just want to start by saying I absolutely love my Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8" inch , and it has over exceeded my expectations. I am in love with the gunmetal color , it is so lightweight and slim , I have a Microsoft surface that is about 5 years old (and still works well) and the difference in the new build is soo much better. The build quality on this newer updated Microsoft surface feels solid and durable, with a clean, sleek design that fits well in my workspace and home. Setup was quick and easy , and it has performed so good without any issues. This Microsoft laptop handles everyday tasks smoothly, everything functions as I expected. I also like that it doesn’t take up much space performs -all in all this laptop is a great balance of quality, convenience, and reliability. Microsoft as always continues to deliver products that are easy to use and built to last. I will definitely always choose Microsoft over any other brand. Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend this to a friend I am obsessed !

Overall, after about two weeks of mixed use, I think this is the perfect business focused laptop if you're looking for a good, balanced device with powerful meeting capabilities and features, great battery life and productivity. The new matte design/color is an awesome, understated approach, but the keyboard deck suffers from fingerprint/palm print issues and I'm concerned about long-term durability from palm/skin oils and residue. The snapdragon processor provides strong productivity features and performance with camera and audio bonus features to make your next teams or zoom meeting presentation 100%. The camera auto-zooms and pans, and the AI-audio does an excellent job of filtering out background noise - perfect for taking meetings in public spaces (as long as it's not too loud) or in shared WFH spaces. I could easily make it through an entire day of non-continuous business/productivity tasks, with about an hour or so of streaming video. The only downsides/negatives I experienced are an extremely long first boot/setup process - the laptop had to download and install numerous windows updates out of the box. It took me nearly half a day of downloading and installing updates on my gigabit fiber wifi connection before windows was finally fully updated; this included one firmware update and two windows 11 service pack updates. Although these updates are not directly a hardware issue, the fact that this is a new laptop yet needed so many updates out of the box speaks to how old the factory image is from MS.

Outstanding capability and realiability coupled with enough space to complete mega assignments.

I couldn't find the type of computer I wanted and didn't even know how to describe it...until I met Ian. He clocked it immediately. I LOVE IT!

It's a perfect laptop for daily usage and all other entertainment

I was using Microsoft surface pro for over a decade when I decided to try the laptop version. It has not disappointed.

A couple years ago, Microsoft launched the copilot+ PC line. It was a very good computer, but tech moves very fast so a device from a couple years ago unfortunately will show its age in one way or another. While my 1st copilot + PC is still quite usable, I wanted an upgrade to the new surface laptop copilot+ PC. In the box really isn’t that much. You get the beautiful laptop and the plug / power adapter. One thing that I immediately liked was the plug is the same type as my previous model, so at a minimum I have a back-up if something happens to the brick or the cord. The laptop itself has 1 USB-A port, 2 USB-C ports, and a 3.5mm earphone jack on the left side of the machine. On the right side you only have the port for the power connection. Other than the barely noticeable fan opening at the rear, the rest of the body of the laptop has no other opening or screws or anything to disturb its perfect build. The keyboard feels great. The trackpad is improved from the previous version, including new haptic feedback. Like I said, it’s beautiful. The new surface laptop just does whatever you ask it to do, when you ask it do it. I have the 13.8” screen and It’s powered by the new snapdragon X2 processor. The laptop can easily do all of the normal entertainment consumption stuff, like web browsing, watching/streaming music & video, and playing games (remember Microsoft has told us that everything is a XBOX). While no one would classify this as a gaming laptop, the new copilot+ PC actually does a pretty good job with gaming thru the xbox app. If you have gamepass, you have a ton of options to play and multiple ways to play them, thru the cloud or direct installs on the PC itself. It also can do all of the productivity stuff that you’d need to do like word processing, excel spreadsheets, your creative work or AI’s creative work. And it handles all of it at the same time. While the 13.8” screen in on the smaller side, the laptop itself is ultra-portable and the HDR pixelsense display with 120hz refresh rate is bright and easy to look at / watch whatever content you are displaying with its 3:2 screen ratio. The screen continues to be a touch screen as well, giving you multiple ways to interact with the laptop, in your preferred way. With all this power, the battery life is incredible. Microsoft says the laptop gives you 20 hrs of video playback on a single charge, which I believe based on my usage! It also features fast charging to get you back to whatever you are doing quickly, charging a significant portion of the battery in an hour. So, the new surface laptop is powerful, fast, & has great battery life, it must be noisy right? I mean my work laptop fans sound like a jet engine when I open multiple spread sheets at the same time. On the surface laptop, I have no idea what the fan sounds like, it never turns on. I’ve watched World Cup games, I played College Football and Fallout 4 using my gamepass subscription, I’ve done dozens of other things and I haven’t heard it once. Of course, it's right in the name of the computer, so I’d should mention that the copilot+ PC devices that Microsoft built considered AI all throughout the process and designed right into the local machine. Similar to the previous version, there is a key right on the keyboard to launch copilot quickly and easily. Even without using copilot, AI is present. When searching for files, pictures, or whatever you are looking for, you can do so using plain language and the PC will likely be able to find it. Another place that the local secure AI is easily visible is while using the camera and studio effects. Things like blurring backgrounds, and visual effects like turning yourself into an animated picture or illustrated picture or watercolor picture. The animated filter is quite creepy on me ha! All in all, this year's model is a nice leap forward from the previous version. The processor is improved which leads to the computer being faster, better at multitasking, and more efficient. It also features great battery life to power your computing day. If you are in the market for a silent, portable, long-lasting laptop that handles everyday work and entertainment effortlessly, this is a great choice.

I wasn't looking very clearly when I grabbed this laptop. I assumed it was a regular ol' laptop, with an intel whatever under the hood. It was when I went to run some benchmarking software to see how hard I could push the integrated graphics that I noticed something was wrong. Instead of the usual x64 CPU benchmarks, I was presented with a Snapdragon benchmark. That's when I started thinking, "did I mess up?" I remember when the first Surface tablets launched. There was a Pro model, which I bought, and there was a non-Pro model that ran on an ARM processor. This wasn't widely advertised, and people bought it and found out that there was limited app compatibility. This almost sunk the brand, but since the Pro had the novelty of a touchscreen tablet running a clean version of windows and pen input(!), they ended up being popular enough to continue iterating on the design. I don't know of anyone that actually kept their regular Surface after understanding what they had purchased compared to the Pro. I was about to give up and get angry that I got the wrong model, when I realized something. I didn't do anything special to install Steam, or the benchmarking software that I had on my Steam account. I had even installed my usual suite of open source productivity tools like Notepad++ for text editing, GIMP for pictures, and Audacity for audio. Everything was working just fine! In fact, after the first startup, GIMP was opening up quicker than on my gaming PC. As it turns out, the installers had picked ARM64 compiled versions of the programs when they were available, and they run incredibly smooth. For x86 and x64 programs, there is a translation layer called Prism that handles most programs with ease. There had been no functional difference between running programs off the Snapdragon X2 12 core processor vs the same program on my Intel desktop. Windows is the exact same. I was convinced, this is a keeper! I use a VPN to connect to my office intranet when I am working from home. So far, I have been unable to find a compatible program that allows me to connect properly. While I was able to install the x64 version of the VPN software that my IT department has provided, it doesn't have the system level resources necessary to run properly. If using a specific VPN, or any other peripheral that has special software designed for an x86/x64 processor, you may want to stick to something with an Intel or AMD inside. Fortunately, I can still connect to my office pc through the web portal. The hardware is pretty slick. It feels like someone took a Surface tablet and made a matching keyboard and trackpad and grafted it on. The trackpad is nice and large. While using it, I noticed that there is a depth to it. Checking the box again, I saw that it was listed as a haptic trackpad. There's definite tactile feedback that makes navigating much easier. I generally hate trackpads, much preferring to pair a bluetooth mouse first chance I can, but I gave this one a shot for the novelty of it. It's pretty cool to be feeling a little bump whenever the cursor hovers over the "Close Window," or being able to click on things without having to actually lift my finger, just pressing in a little harder. I also noticed that the chassis was completely devoid of vents, so no fan noise, but it also wasn't getting very hot. Everything about it feels very premium. I went on a short camping trip to a nearby State Park campground. I downloaded a few movies for entertainment, but forgot the special Surface charger. Yes, Microsoft is sticking with the funky adapter even now. Fortunately, the laptop also charges via USB-C, but I found that I didn't need it at all. After watching a movie the first night, since there was a torrential downpour preventing us from having some campfire fun, the laptop mostly stayed packed away for the whole trip. When I got home after a few days, I was surprised to turn it on from standby to find it still had most of the battery. After my initial shock at using full Windows on an ARM processor, I can pretty much say that this is the way to go for most general use laptops. The internet is going to be the same no matter what device you're on, so the stuff that you're going to be doing specifically on a regular laptop, like spreadsheets, some light image manipulation, and pretending to work on a novel while seated at a table in that funky coffeeshop, you can still do on this laptop just fine. I even ran some retro games that I had installed just to see if they would work. They did, it was fine. Why switch, then? Because the wake from sleep is so much better, as well as the battery life. I have a ton of PCs, from handheld gaming PCs, a server for my home theater, multiple gaming desktop and laptops, but for something on the go like my my upcoming in-town all-day business conference, I'm going to be bringing the Surface so that I don't have to worry about the battery but still get actual work done.

Microsoft’s latest Surface Laptop is powered by the cutting-edge Snapdragon X2 processor, delivering speed and efficiency in a sleek, ultraportable design. The 13.8" PixelSense touchscreen is razor-thin and gorgeous, showing off vibrant colors with smooth 120Hz scrolling that makes everything feel effortless. Whether you’re working, streaming, or just browsing, this laptop is made to keep up with you on the go. In the box, you’ll get the laptop itself, a 39W Surface charger, and the usual documentation to help you get started. I’ve used laptops with ARM processors before, so this one feels pretty familiar to me. If you’re new to ARM-based laptops, don’t worry — chances are you won’t even notice much of a difference. Your apps should install and run smoothly without any compatibility issues. What really stands out is the 12-core Elite X2 processor, which gives this machine plenty of power for multitasking and handling heavy tasks with ease. Even though it’s ultrathin, this laptop still packs in plenty of ports: two USB‑C, a full USB‑A, and a 3.5mm audio jack. You also get the Surface magnetic connector if you’d like to use the included 39W power supply. Charging is flexible too — you can power up through either USB‑C port or with a docking station. On the new Surface laptop, typing feels effortless thanks to the ultra-responsive, backlit keyboard. The touchpad provides subtle haptic feedback across Windows and your everyday apps, making navigation feel seamless. When it comes to battery life, this laptop easily powers you through a full day of work and entertainment on a single charge. Thanks to USB‑C fast charging, you can go from 5% to 80% in under an hour — perfect for quick top‑ups. I also appreciate that the SSD and other modular components can be upgraded, giving you some flexibility down the line. Just keep in mind that tinkering too much could void your warranty. Since it’s a Copilot+ PC, this laptop comes with its own NPU that can handle AI tasks right on the device. Thanks to deep Windows integration and seamless cloud connectivity, it delivers powerful, efficient performance. And whenever you want to bring up your AI companion, just tap the Copilot button on the keyboard. If you want a sleek, lightweight, premium Windows ultraportable with impressive battery life, advanced AI features, and a responsive haptic trackpad, this one’s got you covered.

This is a marvelous and elegant device. And it has the power and performance for keeping up with most people’s productivity needs. I would like to point out some of my favorite features. At 3lbs the Surface Laptop is a bit heavier than some other machines on the market, but the weight is well-balanced and makes the computer feel robust and solid. I like that. The keyboard is perhaps my personal favorite typing option. The keys have for me a perfect travel, détente, and springiness that allow me to write for long periods of time without fatigue or inaccuracy. Note that there is no flex in the keyboard. The haptic trackpad is marvelous! Sensitive and consistent, it is far better than a traditional mechanical pad. I look forward to seeing how more haptics are incorporated in MS software in the future. The PixelSense LCD display is very good. The screen resolution is excellent for crispness and clarity, while not being power hungry. Although I generally prefer OLED screens, this display does not make me feel like I am missing out on anything. I truly am a great fan of Qualcomm! The Snapdragon X2E on this laptop may not be the fastest chip available, but it also does not consume the huge amounts of power and generate heat like the Extreme Elite. This CPU is more than sufficiently performant for me. I have had only one small X86 incompatibility crop up, and that was for a printer driver for an older printer. I found a workaround just by using a generic driver for the time being. Otherwise, all my software runs superbly on Windows on ARM. With the Snapdragon I have a light computer that is speedy, never gets hot, and I still haven’t heard the fans! And hey, the battery life! Finally there are great speakers, solid Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, along with plenty of ports, including USB charging ports. Overall, this is at the top of my list of favorite laptops. I is a joy to use, and I recommend it highly to anyone who needs a highly performant laptop on the go, as long as there is no plan for aggressive gaming or video editing.

While there is much left I still have to test on my 13.8" Microsoft Surface laptop, what I have tested has blown me away. First of all, although it's light, at just under three pounds (I think), it feels like a well built and solid machine. If you've ever used an enterprise grade work laptop, you know how light and cheap the plastic shells can be. This is pretty much the opposite while maintaining a sensible weight. From the feel/heft of the closed laptop the the feel/look of the open laptop, the consistent quality of build continues. Lifting the lit with one finger while leaving the laptop on the counter is a real thing. I was skeptical but it's true, and the lid/screen doesn't move once it's in place. While I have done minimal work no the PC so far, 4K videos on YouTube look pristine as do my photos etc. Looking forward to putting the graphics through their paces later, but off the bat, the image looks GREAT. In my opinion the keys could have used a little more responsiveness, but that probably would have taken away from how quiet they are. Seriously, they're ASMR worthy and I could, unfortunately, see myself typing on them all day. The speed and responsiveness are what you would expect from a 2026 model Surface from Microsoft. But there was one frustrating part, and that was how long it took for the initial setup to complete. Granted this is because I chose to apply the needed Windows/Security updates upon setup, but it took 2 hours. And i have 2GB internet speeds...more like 1 GB wireless but still. That is an absolute eternity when you're anxiously waiting to explore your new computer. Bottom line, it's a well built machine both inside and out, with quality you can feel and see. Once this machine gets going...and it does take its sweet time...it REALLY gets going.
