About this product
The piano trio began to be embraced by Estonian composers around the turn of the 20th century. Composers of that era, many of whom were educated in St. Petersburg, were greatly influenced by the then Russian capital's rich musical life. Estonia's own national musical awakening was later spearheaded by these very composers. The piano trio POLL-VAREMA-POLL was founded in 2013 by Mihkel Poll (piano), Mari Poll (violin) and Henry-David Varema (cello), and since then has performed in Europe as well as in Russia and China, at venues such as the Saint Petersburg Philharmonia and the Estonia Concert Hall. All three artists have prominent recital, orchestral, teaching careers and are recognized for their distinctive creative perspectives. They are enthusiastic champions of the piano trio genre, per-forming the widest possible range of repertoire from Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms to con-temporary composers. Works by Estonian com-posers including national classics Artur Lemba and Heino Eller, and modern-day composers such as Erkki-Sven Tüür, Arvo Pärt and Riho Esko Maimets have an important place in their concert programs.

Mátyás Seiber's body of work is distinguished by a natural versatility, and by the wide range and eclecticism of his musical interests. It incorporates the successful pop song InchBy the Fountains of RomeInch (1956), which hit the Top 10 on the charts; his score for the animated film Animal Farm (1954); and numerous examples of incidental music for radio and television. Born in Budapest on May 4, 1905, Mátyás Seiber began to learn the cello at the age of ten. He studied composition at the Budapest Academy of Music under Kodály from 1919 to 1924, and in 1925 he entered his Serenade for Wind Sextet in a Budapest competition. When it failed to win the prize, Bartók resigned from the jury in protest! On September 24, 1960 - at the age of 55 - Seiber was killed in a car crash in South Africa during a lecturing tour of the country's universities. At the time of his tragically early death, he was one of the most respected composition teachers in Britain.
