Monster Hunter Wilds Standard Edition - PlayStation 5

Monster Hunter Wilds brings the same level of excitement as the previous titles but on a more cinematic scale. If you’re new to the series starting with this one is wise because you get all of the amazing gameplay from the past but on modern equipment! It’s worth the purchase.

The environments are just so breathtaking, and the monster fighting is crazy fun, too! It's the first game I've really played much of in the Monster Hunter series, but I've had a blast with it so far! Would definitely recommend to those who enjoy action with a diverse range of ways to fight. Oh, also fighting huge monsters. Its multiplayer does leave a lot to be desired, though, and the scoutflies can be pretty annoying at times.

The game is very fun, this is a very good entry point if you're new to the Monster Hunter franchise, it does a good job of streamlining mechanics and teaching you the game through the story mode. Hardcore fans of the series may find it to be too easy, but so far I have found the game satisfying to explore and fight monsters. I think movement was a little better in Monster Hunter Rise on the Palamute but the Seikrets are still nice to have.

I bought Monster Hunter Wilds on PS5 as a Birthday present for myself. Personally, I really liked the new and the returning monsters. Plus, the story was interesting. Coming from someone who has played Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise, in my opinion, Monster Hunter Wilds is almost equal to Rise. That's mostly due to the characters. I cared ever so slightly more about the people and the NPCs than the people in Rise. The visuals do look a bit better than Rise, but none of them compare to World. Wilds does do a good job at getting the player's attention with he story and the new/returning monsters. But Rise has that mechanic that makes it so that you can ride on the monsters! I may not Love Rise, I cant ignore that mechanic. The Seikrets are a cool way of traversing the large landscapes in the game. You can even customize the colors and feathers of the seikret. However, I don't like how there's this mechanic that essentially automatically moves you to a desired pinned location on the map. Not to sound old, but back in my day, when I played Monster Hunter World you ran everywhere and there was an incentive to actually remember most of the landmarks and items located in the area and using your map. In my opinion, it was good to just take in the sights and sounds of the environment, from the beauty of the Ancient Forest to the latent beauty of the Rotten Vale. Not to mention how all the monsters interacted in their environment was a wonderful time as well. All this while doing a mission that lasts for like 50 minutes. The funny thing is, there were times in World where I would just go to these areas not because I had a mission, but because I needed some resources and I wanted to just take in the environment. no heated, intense battles, just walking around sometimes in my ghilie mantle collecting the occasional mining deposits, honey, etc. I just wanted to take in the location's vibe. And the off chance you do get lost while on a mission, Monster Hunter World has scoutflies which literally point you in the right direction. And Rise has these creatures known as Palamutes, which essentially serve the same function as Seikrets except Palamutes can actually fight with you. Seikrets only help you get to where you need to go quickly, and someone you can call on quickly during a monster hunt. In Rise and Wilds, its made too easy to just get anywhere and while yes its a "quality of life" improvement, it just tells the player: instead of taking your time and really take in the sights and sounds Wilds has to offer, just open your map, pin the monster, ride on your Seikret, and just pay no mind to the environment. blatantly in your face "". There's no incentive to take anything in the land... just go to the destination, hunt a monster, mission completed, rinse and repeat. Also there needs to be more of a challenge in Wilds. I lost multiple times in World even put +800 hours into that game. The challenge is what got me hooked. Every monster late game was a challenge and I loved that. Rise didn't have that for me and Wilds was so close. if I could I would give this game 3.5/5 stars, but I'll just round up. I would recommend this game to someone. Either this game or World because I'm biased. Maybe Rise solely because of that mechanic i said earlier.

Liked World, loved Iceborne, and loved Rise Wilds is beautiful, runs at a smooth 60fps in performance mode, the weapons all feel great to use, the monsters are super creative, and the game is dripping with lots of nice details. However, this game has some of the worst pacing I've played in a game. Rather than having a hub world where you get and post quests, focus on finding/fighting monsters, or exploring the environments at your own pace, the first several hours of this game force you into slow ridealongs with NPCs, find NPCs to talk to, and skip through yapathon cutscenes. After 20-30 minutes of this you'll end up in a fight that lasts 5 minutes and is so easy there's no threat of failure nor need to learn or prepare for the encounter. Like World, you need to get far enough into a quest for friends to join. What happened? In Rise you post the quest, friends join, and you do everything together. Not to mention, finding and grouping up with friends is way more cumbersome and obtuse than in World or Rise. Menus and UI were never MH's strongest attributes, but are even more unclear and difficult to navigate than ever. Wilds feels like 1 step forward in terms of performance, mechanics, and environmental richness, but 2 steps back in terms of pacing, multiplayer, and letting veterans enjoy more freedom earlier in the game
